Vinyl Me Please Anthology

On the bright side, both of the first two releases sound very good... but I suppose that was never really in doubt when you've got AAA, Kevin Gray, RTI, etc. who have proven quality work with Blue Note (and others) in the past. Still have a bit of a sour taste in my mouth on the mislabeled stereo label and CD cover art, though...

It's so crazy that this thread makes me feel like I'm hiding with the outcasts. I'm trying to remain impervious to hating on VMP, but the way that VMP says things to other folks (like the deletion of comments and the scolding email) makes me feel like I'm the crazy one, which makes me feel like I'm being gaslighted, when I'm not even part of the dang anthology community! Powerful stuff VMP....

I'm surprised someone isn't putting together a press release to tell the media what's going on... Music business builds fan community, then tries to silence it... Small vinyl selling company breaches freedom of speech by trying to silence discussion about its growing number of flaws... Community of music fans take matters into their own hands and fund their own forum, despite continuing attempts to silence them elsewhere.... Quotes etc.

This is not a freedom of speech issue.

Somebody else in this thread brought up that the only part VMP was responsible for was the part that was screwed up. So it should give you an indication of how much VMP really cares about their product.

So far, no foil stamp, stereo labels on a mono record, CD art work used, deleting the essential historical liner notes... and we’re not supposed to collectively discuss in the community, that we paid to be a part of, all this lack of attention to detail?

Like I said, VMP trying my patience right now.

So who all here has reached out to the anthology@ email address and received a response other than "we are working on it"?

I'm thinking of putting together an email today simply expressng my annoyance (approaching anger) that there has been no formal communication about the Dexter sleeve issues, hand numbering, mislabeled stereo/mono, deleting comments in the FB group, and just generally being shitty people.

My package is set to arrive later this week, so I'm going to frame the email from that viewpoint of I've only heard about these issues through comments in fourms and the FB group and not through direct VMP communucation (queue the beating of a dead horse).

Are there any other glaring misrepresentations of the promised package that I'm missing?

You have freedom of speech as it pertains to the government. The government isn't deleting your comments. A private entity like Facebook or VMP is allowed to have its own community standards that people agree to when they sign up.

Obligatory "I'm not a lawyer."
How about when VMP delete comments on Facebook they don't agree with, even tho they don't violate Facebook standards...?

Still has literally nothing to do with it. No one is entitled to have their voice heard.

I believe individual communities on Facebook are also allowed to make their own standards on the platform. You could call it "censorship", sure, but no one's right to free speech is being impinged.

You're obviously quite clued up about it, whereas I'm not, I only read the definition below, your honour! Not sure about the legal jargon but maybe I'm thinking it's censorship when it isn't.

freedom of speech
noun
  1. the power or right to express one's opinions without censorship, restraint, or legal penalty

Yeah but that only applies to government overreach and not another private entity with which you agreed to their terms and conditions of use.

I agree what VMP are doing is shitty but it's not a 1st Amendment violation.

I have voiced my opinion over on facebook. Whether or not those comments are still there is TBD. I am okay with waiting a few days to see what they come up with as a response to be honest. They know there's an issue and how they handle it will be very telling, although I already suspect what will happen. If the response is to send a digital link to the liner notes, I'll be sending a not-so-nice email.

The fact is that they reprinted the Queen sleeve for a much smaller misprint. If they can't reprint 1,000 sleeves of 1 record that cost way more for us to buy, then they need to find another way to make it up to us.

Not sure if you’re serious here but we want to reiterate that we do not want to frame the existence of this forum as antiVMP in any way. We are our own forum. VMP fans and those who are not are welcome here.

What do you think they would do with more time? :p
