Vinyl Me Please Anthology

I can’t answer for anyone but myself, but I live in East Tennessee. Dollywood is about a 90 minute drive for me. Anytime I see a used Dolly Record around here, they are $40 or so. This is definitely much cheaper for me than trying to buy locally. I occasionally stumble upon them on marketplace, but they are usually played to death.
So that everyone reading understands this post...SHE IS OUR ELVIS in East, TN!!!! I kid you not!

storf, from the discord. no swaps, won't wind up in swaps, no monthly subs, another one like this coming later. I dunno, I kind of dig it. Dolly's (mostly) not my jam but I like the idea.
Yeah but the problem with this is, now the tracks are being gated. It's not a "track" if I have to buy a separate membership for it and I can only go 3/6/12 months at a time. I don't have a problem with this one but if this becomes the norm, like Brazilian funk? How about you just do some Brazilian funk records in the regular tracks instead of it being gated? This could end up limiting the main tracks and forcing you to spend more to subscribe to the new gated tra- oh I see why they're doing it.

Yeah, the more I learn about this, the more I kind of don't like it.
There may have been one or two Dolly albums I woudn't mind snagging if I was actually a member still, but I'm not going to dump that kind of cash on that kind of commitment.

Or how about you just do some Brazilian funk exclusives? Or Dolly exclusives? Remember when VMP did cool store exclusives and not just color variants of new releases?

If these (Dolly) were available in the store, I'd buy 3 or 4 of them. But there is no way in hell i'm going to sign up for a 3 or 6 or 12 month commitment to get a bunch of other albums I don't want at $40 a pop. I'm sure they think doing it this way will make them more money. Doesn't mean I have to play along.

If there's one thing I've learned about vmp is that saying they won't repress is never true. If they can press more to make $ they probably will eventuality

Wait, who exactly is stopping them form doing these things? In the classics track haven't they done like 4-5 months in a row of jazz? What's stopping them from doing a gospel album and having 2-3 store drops to go along with them? Seriously, I remember the month Experience Unlimited dropped they had 4 JuJu albums from the same label as exclusives! Do they forget how they used to run this company?!

No one's stopping them, they're just maximizing revenue streams.

Kind of interesting seeing the reaction here....lukewarm from existing/previous members, but looks like they may have snagged a few new subscribers from the /r/vinylreleases crowd.

My complete guess is pressing times is why they can't do the track with exclusive drops as often

And all those JuJu albums were broken out and released later for cheaper from Now-Again. In a way, I don't blame VMP for not going down the international world music kinda route because it's extremely difficult to find those diamond in the rough albums, get master tapes and rights and reissue them. Experience Unlimited did NOT sell well for them. Now-Again and Mr. Bongo seem to spend tons of time trying to get rights for those albums. They aren't gonna give TRUE exclusives to VMP for those with how much legwork goes into it, so they just get a color variant. I'd rather just have Now-Again or Mr Bongo reissue those albums for cheaper.

they are largely leaning into what sells. And for them, indie rock, jazz and RHH sell really well. seems there will be less jazz in classics this year but we'll see.

Yea was supposedly being announced this month but think that got walked back
Hmmm…. Storf said it would get announced this month as recently as last Friday. Wouldn’t be shocked if there was a delay. We’ve been waiting on impulse for a year or so…

Pretty sure I mentioned to someone that miles was announced this month and he said something along the lines of “i never said that”

He did follow up today in the discord saying announcement is this month. All AAA, and Get Up With It is one of the titles. I think In a Silent Way was also previously confirmed.
I think he also said the Impulse box was entirely AAA, then walked that back. We'll see though. I think Storf does forget what he says a lot of the time. He told me they were doing some Joe Henderson Milestone titles, then later said they weren't.

He said it was going to focus on something specific with Miles. I also asked if it would be an Electric Miles box and he said no. So I am curious what it will end up being
