I'm not terribly familiar with the story, but isn't that kinda how they picked that Experience Unlimited record?
They do on occasion seem to take that into account

Lots of labels do that though...Now-Again does it often--cool record that needs a reissue but is also really expensive to find on discogs. Lloyd Miller Oriental Jazz was pretty much that.I'm not terribly familiar with the story, but isn't that kinda how they picked that Experience Unlimited record?
I thought how they picked that was someone on the old forum told a VMP staffer that they should check it out and then they did and liked it and then later wrote that they were just looking around discogs and ran across it.I'm not terribly familiar with the story, but isn't that kinda how they picked that Experience Unlimited record?
Yea...you know...as you do on a Saturday night. Just scrolling through the ol' discogs!I thought how they picked that was someone on the old forum told a VMP staffer that they should check it out and then they did and liked it and then later wrote that they were just looking around discogs and ran across it.
Yeah this came up in the "we're pausing the forum" death thread. I'm pretty sure it was Cam too, but I can't remember who the forum member was. They linked to proof and it was pretty black and white what happened.Lots of labels do that though...Now-Again does it often--cool record that needs a reissue but is also really expensive to find on discogs. From what I recall, someone on the old VMP forums said that the Experience Unlimited record was amazing and needed a repress and Cam (?) acknowledged it but then in an interview said he found it by just browsing through discogs late one night. Someone might remember the story more clearly than me though...
Well, I do believe that if you work for VMP you would probably do that, but in this case there was just straight up proof.Yea...you know...as you do on a Saturday night. Just scrolling through the ol' discogs!

I'm relatively new here, but I was reading that thread and I believe the forum member who recommended EU was "The_Stoned_Ape". (maybe?) Perhaps that will help to search for it if you want to try to find cached threads.Yeah this came up in the "we're pausing the forum" death thread. Well, it was a great choice. It was definitely him.. him telling the story is how I heard about it in the first place.
I just remember the story sounding pretty made up and then heard the forum's side of the story too and it all clicked.Well, I do believe that if you work for VMP you would probably do that, but in this case there was just straight up proof.
And of course, the way it was handled wasn't anything like "Oh shit, that IS how I heard of it! I totally forgot and fucked that up! I'm gonna change the article now and credit you at every appropriate opportunity!"
The main difference is that Now Again isn't going by Discogs links.. Egon has been a dedicated digger for like 25+ years now. As well as all the people in his circle. They don't need Discogs to know about these records.
What if this whole thing is a game changing "living jazz" experience and we're all in the middle of an epic improvisation that's just gone a little more avant garde than we may be comfortable with?!Sorry to sidetrack too much. I'm also an Anthology subscriber. I like jazz, but don't have much of it and was hoping to learn more through the "experience". Boy, what an experience it has been thus far...
I can see that aspect of it has been even more frustrating than the jacket mishap and other things. Maybe the liner note booklet will help too but that's not until the last shipment which is weird to me. I guess it's because they wanted to keep the records "secret" so it was a surprise each shipment even though most people know by now what to expect...Sorry to sidetrack too much. A real game cha... a screw it that horse is deadI do think the booklet we get with the last shipment will be enlightening
Ha! Good analogy I think. Yeah, this wouldn't be my kind of jazz, thenWhat if this whole thing is a game changing "living jazz" experience and we're all in the middle of an epic improvisation that's just gone a little more avant garde than we may be comfortable with?!

Oh yea 100%. Egon actually goes and digs and has unearthed a ton of stuff. He's insanely connected with all sorts of record dealers all over the world. I never got that vibe from Cam. I just meant that a lot of labels now focus on albums that are super hard to find and can ONLY be purchased for very expensive amounts on discogs, so not anything inherently wrong with that.
Never attribute an action as being “intentional” when it can be more easily explained by incompetence.that would be hilarious if this was some elaborate scheme, but it is VMP so...
