Vinyl Me Please Anthology

I wasn't following the foil stamp part of things. That's some bs.

I do feel like our guard is up right now because we've given them the money and VMP fumbled what should have been an underhand toss.

As someone who has written for Rolling Stone, the stuff they're sharing is obviously all garbage links and it's embarrassing. When VMP said podcasts, I was thinking more like an hour or two like every other podcast I listen to, covering bop and hard bop in 22 minutes was rank amateur. I'd just lazy. I'd assumed at the very least they would have included liner notes for each album like they do for classics. The Facebook group also is just garbage. At this point, you are fooling yourself if you are expecting to get anything more than six records out of this.

I will say that the day that I see seeing the "Vinyl Me Please Anthology sold out in three hours and we made XX" articles, I felt betrayed. I've found myself focusing on Light in the Attic lately and Tone Poet.
The money that I used to spend at VMP from now on will go exclusively to Sam Records, Pure Pleasure, Jazzman, Blue Note and a few other labels and artists directly (LITA and Numero also come to mind). Places that treat things more like fans of music who care about the details and less like tech startups.

Seconded on Numero. Light on the Southside is one of the best compilations I ever bought.

Ironically, the guy who started LITA did so when his tech startup (Real Audio) had to pivot.

Got my Anthology package today. Haven't removed the shrink, but it's number 800-something.

So, as the posts that excuse the cover label and other problems with anthology build over on Facebook, I just want to apologize for being that guy two years back.

You were being an optimist. That's a positive thing.

I really do like the whole staggering the records idea for this anthology, it's a really interesting idea.

I do think it's a fantastic way to do a box set. That's a game-changer (actually not being sarcastic about this).

When is the last month that there hasn’t been at least one screw up?

I had three consecutive years of an annual subscription to VMP so I'm familiar with what to expect from them. As a result, when I read about the stereo labels on the mono record and the CD artwork on the sleeve, it didn't startle me. I knew what I was getting into when I purchased this VMP product. If I get outraged, given that I knew what to expect, that's on me.

I like the idea of the staggered release. I like the shipping not being from their 3rd-party logistics contractor (the box that arrived today appeared to be in good shape and nothing was rattling around) and I like that the pressings were done by RTI rather than GZ.

I dig Numero's curation but have gotten a few bad vinyl pressings from them. They press at URP in Nashville and that place is... bad. I buy Numero stuff on CD.

I am really surprised you subbed for it

I could take or leave the staggered release but the shipping was good and of course the pressing plant (outside of the scratch on mine)

Me too. Dead-guy jazz isn't my flavor, but I'm not educated in it either, so I'm taking a chance. The jazz that I like tends to be infused with hip-hop (think GURU) or a few albums from the International Anthem label (Makaya McCraven, some Ben Lamar Gay).

If you like the rappity jazz, may I suggest Greg Osby's 3-D Lifestyles on Blue Note from 93ish... Features Philly's answer to the Wu-Tang Clan, 100x, and is a very good record!

I originally got into Jazz from the Blue Break Beats and Madlib Shades of Blue records because I felt the same as you awhile back. That opened a whole new world for me.

Glad you guys got this fixed but man, the web of lies in their responses to this is unbelievable. When is the last month that there hasn’t been at least one screw up?

At best, I’d like to think they have a lot of “idea people” over there but are just in over their heads.

They’ve lost me as a customer but I’d like to hope they get it together because they have supported a lot of great artists and projects.
Yeah the idea people comment strikes me as true. Like they need some real nuts and bolts people.
