Vinyl Me Please Anthology

They definitely lurk on here. And if they don’t they are the stupidest company that ever existed. Your members/disgruntled ex-members gather together to discuss your product and those of your rivals and you don’t check in? That’s either total arrogance that you are in the right and don’t need a whole section of your customers or total stupidity by a company heading towards the edge of a cliff. I don’t think they post but they know what is said.
I mean at this point that is pretty well documented.

For all the mistakes in this box, it has given me the opportunity to pass on more jazz records to my little brother, which I am grateful for.

Still waiting on my third shipment & booklet.

I've pretty much muted the Facebook group at this point. Tired of seeing "Here's a random jazz title I'm playing right now" posts multiple times an hour. I just don't have the time or the will to sift through all of that noise, even if they include helpful descriptors of why the albums are cool.

The one area where Ant works is none of these are the first record that anyone would pick by the artist or for the “period.” That being said, that’s nothing new, it’s what VMP does well. In that respect it is overpriced. There’s a part of me that is happy I have it, there is a part of me that wishes the last straw had happened before I bought this.

Good thing is my separation has been good. I’ve even stopped checking the mag and I only keep an eye on this and the sclusie thread because I still have a vested interest in them.

Pixelated cover for Ambrose Akimusire indicates a blow-up from a CD that wasn't done properly. Look at lettering on front cover. On the bright side, the vinyl looks fantastic.

C'mon! Give them a break already. The technology from 2010 was so antiquated, that I'm surprised even an image from a CD cover was available!
I mean they barely even had iphones back then!!

I haven't really posted on here because I missed the chance to sign up. In all honestly I was super excited for the announcement of this, especially considering that im a huge Blue Note fan. I was on holiday abroad during the time of release and added an alarm to sign up but unfortunately it took about 5 hours from the release time for me to acquire internet, at which point it was sold out. I was really, really gutted for a long time actually and even asked VMP to add me to a waiting list in case someone dropped out.

This thread has served as a way of me looking in and, in a harsh kind of way, has kind of made me feel less annoyed that I missed out. At times like this its worth taking note that people are more likely to comment when they have issues over praises, but even still it seems to have been a pretty poor execution from VMP. Again, from an outsiders perspective (correct me if im wrong) it seems to be that the main issues have been the presentation/package over the audio quality, and that a real shame as things like low quality source images, and incorrect mono/stereo claims should NEVER have happened as its such an easy thing to check. I work in a field where designs are sent to clients and every drawing that gets released HAS to be checked by someone else before we can send it out. When it comes to releasing a presentation, each individual page will have been updated, checked, and signed off by the design team off approx 3-4 people at least 2-3 times in total. And this is without any of us having any training in 'graphic design', its just using common sense. So as far as im concerned VMP should have picked up on these easy wins (the reason im focusing on this is because things like the printing of low quality source images and incorrect info has been a reoccurring VMP issue - e.g. Blossom Dearie, UGK, etc).

Anyway, this wasn't meant to be a rant when I first started, I just find it incredibly annoying that such a fantastic concept has been executed so poorly, and genuinely feel for you guys that have been experiencing these blunders.

As others have said, everything that VMP has not touched with regards to Anthology has been great. Remastering, pressing quality, etc. Anything VMP touched has been pretty shit (outside of the box itself looking nice). So the music is still great, the vinyl sounds amazing but the entire package and what we were all promised has been a letdown. I never expected this to be a bargain product (and anybody saying from the start that it should have been $150 or less) but I did expect more than what was delivered.

Eh, t's been a fine presentation. Things I love:

(1) repressing that do not get the main color of the album's front color correct
(this is a perfect addition to your record collection, if you're color blind)

(2) repressings of "high end" jazz releases that borrow the back cover from CD releases rather than the original pressing (who cares! next time, I'd like to see VMP put their favorite pictures on the back of albums, high end schmi fend I say)

(3) albums whose A side label is on side B and whose B side label is on side A (because if I'm going to spend two weeks listening to an album and learning each of its tracks, why should VMP bother to learn what's on the album too?)

(4) album 1 whose labels are on album 2 when album 2's labels are on album 1 (this was the highlight of my box, it's a creative way to fail)

(5) a big stack of liner notes that's stapled together and full of typos that comes after the end of a box set "experiment" (words, who needs em?)

(6) a podcast that provides nothing valuable to the presentation (I love listening to dull 25 minute podcasts, it fills out my day)

(7) albums that have torn outer jackets and labels (i don't know about all of you, but i take my records skeet shooting, doesn't bother me at all)

I try to view this experiment as a really well executed prank. You totally nailed this one, VMP.

is the booklet actually stapled together with typos?? i haven't gotten mine yet...pretty spot on with the other comments though hah. that's pretty much what certain people are saying in the facebook group..."it's all about the music! who cares if the sleeves are CD covers blown up and the labels are wrong??"

If you're open to sending it on to someone else, seeing as he doesn't need this anymore, it's the one I'm after. Well, this and the Bobby Hutcherson.

I thought they were just replacing the records and even in that case I'd even be happy with just the record (wrong labels) and no sleeve.
Sure thing. I put a sticky note on the box set to remind me. When the replacement arrives, I'll touch base with you and if you still want it I'll send it off to you.
I just find it incredibly annoying that such a fantastic concept has been executed so poorly, and genuinely feel for you guys that have been experiencing these blunders.
That's the weird part, all of the errors seem like they'd have been caught by a Project Manager - the one person the buck would stop with.
