Vinyl Me Please Classics

Not Al Green’s Call Me, but I think it’s just as good or better than the Classics Aretha Franklin And Otis Redding pick! Yes, I understand this is a Funk album, not a soul one. But this is a HUGE pick! This is Ohio Players best album + has the iconic Love Rollercoaster hit and it’s just has that sexual fantasy aesthetic! Like.....might be a little bit too good to be true 🤷‍♂️🤤

I know that we joke about Classics being readily available, but this album is literally in every record store and convention on Earth in the bargain bin.

Also, I hate your reddit flair- don't feed his vanity lol

I sort of think VMP is running out of things to press on the classics track or is mostly getting cheap things to license to try to offset some of their bigger “gets”. There is hardly anything “classic” about some of their recent picks.

But I really like Storf! I want him to participate more in the Reddit forum! 🙈☺️

I’m guessing you’re not a fan of Storf? 🤔

Bingo. The Classics track has been really hit or miss recently. The choices aren't as inspired as they have been in the past. I like the Sahara pick, but some of the more recent ones are head-scratching.

You are going to make me defend VMP and for that I may never forgive you- but I thought Sahara was an inspired choice, and while I didn't get the Albert King, the people who did seem to enjoy it a lot and would have never picked that up on their own.

So respec given where deserved.

True. Sahara is a good choice (forgot about it since I already own that one) and King was a good pick (although would have gone with a different King album). I guess in the past 6 months or so there have been some real stretches when calling something a classic, for me at least. They used to do great titles month in and month out and I find myself less drawn to it as of late which is a shame because the quality is still excellent.

I thought Albert King was a fantastic artist choice, but the choice of a covers album was horrible. I get that the playing is great, but I'd rather something more original (I get Blues is a lot of covers) and representative of the artist.

While I enjoyed the Errol Garner and Herbie selections, they both felt a little 2nd tier.

I don't understand how Patrice Rushen is Classics at all. Not a bad album for what it is. But definitely 80s feeling.

Also, they are on a stretch of doing albums that have cheap originals available. One of the big things about this series was bringing in hard to find classics. That seems to have gone by the wayside and has been replaced with let's be MoFis/APs little brother and reissue whatever we can get the rights to do.

Classier but still lewd

Thats why I was fine with dropping classics for several months until Sahara came along. I think they expected Errol Garner to be a bigger deal but think it will be around for a while.

Oh and if you think it's JUST the exclusives not ROTM

Those are some bare nipples

Hell even the art for lapsley had nipples if I remember right
Fair enough! An illustrated nipple is pretty different than a naked woman dripping in honey but I could be very wrong about it haha. I was also surprised that VMP did a John Mayer album considering their stance on other artists with checkered pasts so who knows!

Personally agree to disagree

I find lewd but not showing bare nipples still less offensive than showing any nipple (even illustrated). It's mostly just a big surprise because it's uncomfortable having people see nipples
