Vinyl Me Please Classics

@dhodo this is some of the reasoning behind Storf's selection process since we were talking about this yesterday:

Yeah, that's what I saw that made me say that. I thought it was in the actual notes. I was combing through storf's tweets to see if anyone answered about Actual Facts. I personally think it is a bad reason to reissue a record. Just because two obviously biased people think it is "underrated," which doesn't even mean they think it is great, just better than some people think.

Edit:Maybe Porter is less biased? Not sure if he has a connection to Money Talks.

mmmm yeah, I feel like a lot of people were disappointed in the Patrice Rushen choice! It's definitely the Classics pick that stands out the most for having a contemporary funk sound! 🍭

I love Patrice Rushen's Straight From The Heart! 'Forget Me Nots' is a killer track, with an amazing groovy fat baseline! it's a sleek, infectious post-disco song and Patrice's dreamy vocals just glide and melt so perfectly into the mix. The centrepiece of the record in my opinion is 'Remind Me', a track that's been sampled hundreds of times! One of the best R&B songs of the 80's for sure! Side A of Straight From the Heart is like that Sunset, tropical, beach-like, funky music! It's perfection! Side B is very diverse! You have that closing track which is like a chilled, acoustic-like cuban song, 'Breakout', a gospel-like funky song, 'Remind Me', a juicy, groovy, relaxed song and 'Where Is The Love', a luxurious, smooth quiet-storm number! 🏝🍹

I think Patrice Rushen's Straight From The Heart was an excellent pick, and the pressing sounds absolutely incredible! I think a lot of people don't like it because it's a progressive R&B/post-disco kinda album from the 80's. But if you actually purchase the vinyl and spin it, I'm sure you'll be grooving and will cherish it! ❤
It’s my favourite release by VMP. Swapped this month’s Bar Keys for Posh

Anyone notice any difference between the 1st and 2nd press Blossom? I got rid of my first press but I swear I remember it being a tip-on with a heavier card stock than what I just got in the mail.

Bloody hell. My email from Pauly said "There was a slight delay with the remaining stock we had of that title, but we should be shipping your copy with your August shipment"

I interpreted that as "we found a new way to screw up but you will get your record someday. Thanks for the short term loan."

After being promised the previous week that there had been a technical glitch which caused orders to be overlooked and that my shipment would go out this week, I followed up Thursday evening since it apparently hadn't gone out yet.

This morning, Kelsey went with - "The Sahara record experienced some unexpected delays and is now shipping in August along with your August ROTM." They're not running off the same exact script but clearly have been provided some keywords & phrases to throw at customers. I was especially angered by the next sentence - "I'm really sorry about the delay, as I know you were anticipating it arriving sooner"; not her fault but comes across as the epitome of corporate false sympathy/minor gaslighting.

I responded that I didn't believe her/VMP - even though it was anecdotal we know they were able to ship a *replacement* of Sahara to at least one customer this week, it has continued to show as IN-STOCK in the system the entire time, and they've screwed up so many times that they no longer get the benefit of the doubt, especially when offering vague, opaque excuses. I did make it clear that I don't blame CS.

People have been claiming Ghostface’s Apollo Kids peaked at 120 on the charts and that is the lead guess. Kind of hard to cross reference any jazz albums on the Billboard charts. A quick google search came up with Al Jarreau’s Glow. Don’t think it will be that but a hard pass if it is.

I think the clue is supposed to be understood as 1, 3 and 2. Storf did it like this before, right?
