Vinyl Me Please Classics

Famous hip hop samples are awful reasons to buy an album IMO. There are tons of amazing hip hop songs that use samples from really mediocre albums. Never heard that as any reason to sell an album before VMP. Certainly still doesn't seem like a good selling point to me.
Not naming any names, but there are a couple of albums VMP sold me on with the "famous sample" pitch and none of those albums have gone on to heavy rotation in my household...

I feel attacked lol. I can't tell you how many shitty records I've bought just because there was a sample on there. Hell, I've bought stuff just because it had a drum break on it 😂

VMP Classics version of ‘Musical Massage’ will be a thing of beauty if it happens.
I’m begging for it in my head to happen! I want it to happen so badly! If Musical Massage is indeed the Classics ROTM, it will be my favourite along with Gabor Szabo’s Dreams, Al Green’s Call Me, Art Blakey & The Jazz Messenger’s Freedom Rider, and John Lee Hooker’s Serve You Right to Suffer!!! 😍😍😍

That's kind of my thought with VMP's recent exclusive of Galt MacDermot's "The Nucleus." The song that Dilla used in Donuts is hot fire. The rest of the album... not so much.

Skull Snaps?
Ey yo anybody not wanting their VMP exclusive of Skull Snaps I will happily give it a home in a slightly overcrowded Kallax shelf.

I think any pick of Hayes other than Hot Buttered Soul or Shaft would have met this sub's goal of highlighting less heralded albums for most of their subscribers. The same was true of Albert King and doing anything other than Born Under A Bad Sign (or The Bar-Kays, etc.). It is either the label giving them only the scraps of the catalog or getting too cute with the lost sounds found idea.

For those who have the Hathaway, how does it sound? The SC release and VMP release are roughly the same amount, and I wouldn't need to create another order from another vendor to get the VMP version, if Axelrod or something else more tasty isn't in Swaps.

Mine sounds great but I don't have the Speakers Corner version to compare it to. The bass is nice and punchy, the soundstage is really nice for a mono recording, and my copy was pristine.
