Vinyl Me Please Classics

Looks like Miles Davis' "Star People" will be a Classics pick next quarter.

Later this fall, VMP Classics will offer the first vinyl reissue of Star People, appearing as a 2LP set for the first time. The VMP vinyl reissue was remastered from the original analog tape masters by Mark Wilder and supervised by producer Steve Berkowitz. To join the VMP club, visit HERE. Good catch. Never listened to Star People, excited to give it a stream.

don't tell @keylime_5 😅 we all need a leg up to try to win guess me please!

I would do the swap for credit for Aretha, then if you want another ROTM do an add-on for $33. I don't even know if Aretha is limited. saw something about it being limited to 5,000 maybe awhile back but can't seem to find it.
This is the way to do it... as long as you're okay waiting around for Aretha for, oh I don't know, three months maybe? I ordered Spirit with store credit back in April and it hasn't been "bundled" with either of my last two sub boxes. When I contacted CS their response was basically, and I'm paraphrasing, "Sry, workin' on it."

*shrug*

Anyhow, good luck 😉

Was expecting another Miles record at some point, but was most definitely not expecting Star People! Very interesting. I know his 80’s period isn’t the most celebrated but I actually like this album.
Giving it a listen now. Yeah, I haven't actually heard the album before today and I'm digging it. It's definitely 80s but not at all in a bad way.

Crazy. Popped back in for Phineas for 1 month, swapped credits showed up on the 1st of the month, ordered Spirit and both shipped at the same time

Yeah, when i Aretha didn't show up with Tribe I thought fer sher she would be ridin shotgun with Jonnie and Patsy. Apparently, the box wasn't big enough for three voices of such caliber.

Also, I was debating not re-subbing, but now that Aretha is being held hostage -- and with the promise of more Fiona -- it appears that VMP are doing their damnedest to keep me under their spell.

I’m pretty excited for this next quarter. Sun Ship is awesome, although I totally understand why not everyone would dig it.

The Dinah and Dizzy pics are on point as well. And then if we’re really getting Miles in October, well that’s a hell of a four month run.

honestly as someone whos favorite jazz albums are jack johnson and machine gun sun ship is in the right direction bit its not full "overstimulate with constant noise" that would make me call it actual noise.. i just meant compared to oriental jazz, this is practically a noise album

also i might understand why a 14 year old storf more into popular music that was getting louder and louder would gravitate towards sunship despite being a difficult first album, i know my death grips listening "am i able to emotionally breakdown to this" ass would gravitate more to this than maybe even something like ascension or even a love supreme

So I thought I’d stick with Coltrane this month - had a little listen in the car today - what a shocker ! Awful noise

Thank god I did - no way I can listen to that an again - I guess I’m not a fan of Free Jazz !

I’ll stick to a love supreme
i think there is still some free jazz you might enjoy, you may dislike the cacophony of sounds that come out of an album like ascension or free jazz but I'm certain something like eric dolphys out to lunch (which is less full-on assault and more "lets get wonky and jump a bunch of octaves") might be closer to your thing

Just unpacked my second copy of Johnny Taylor and got the worst warp on any record I’ve ever owned. Horrendous, hopefully third time is a charm.
I know another copy will be coming, but I think this is what you get from GZ Classics. First time ever requesting a classics replacement.
