So looks like I was about 3 or 4 months early in calling an Odetta album.April is either Odetta & The Blues or Odetta's Sometimes I Feel Like Crying
I think May is Jimmy Smith - The Cat; June, Thelonious Monk - Monk's Music
So they did get another Blue Note. Interesting.
Well. These three Classics better be something because the other tracks, if confirmed ,are quite disappointing
Monks music ain't bad...
I think May is 'organ jazz' not 'soul jazz'I'm not on Discord, are these the front runners?
April - 1962 Folk-Blues Riverside (Odetta - Odetta and The Blues?)
May - 1964 Soul-Jazz Blue Note (Stanley Turrentine - A Chip Off the Old Block (released in 1964) or In Memory Of (recorded in 1964)
June - 1957 Hard Bop Riverside (Thelonious Monk - Brilliant Corners, Monk's Music or Thelonious Himself?)
I think May is 'organ jazz' not 'soul jazz'
That makes A Chip Off the Old Block more likely than as Turrentine's wife Shirley Scott plays on it and is co-billed.
Or Big John Patton - The Way I Feel
Or "Baby Face" Willette - Mo' Rock
Yeah, I mean I don't anyone would dispute that he deserves it, so the fact that they haven't done one yet makes me think there is a reason, like an issue with his label or something like that. I guess that's my question, if anyone knows...is there something preventing a JB release. That's a solid question, dude's got a bunch of records that are winners. Not that I'm complaining about a bunch of monk or miles or Coltrane ....
