Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Here’s my guess:

that dog. - that dog.

It’s the 25th anniversary this year and they just reissued the deluxe edition digitally without any vinyl release. They also just released a new single last week and the new album is out October 4th. If exclusives are coming, I could see them having the new album as well as presses of Retreat from the Sun and Totally Crushed Out (fantastic albums with no vinyl readily (or ever) available). But this all makes too much sense to be true.

If this comes true, I’ll have to grit my teeth and sign up for it.

1999 is actually not a terrible year or indie/rock... Can we do anything with any of these?:

Bonnie Prince Billy - I See A Darkness
Built To Spill - Keep It Like A Secret
Sparklehorse - Good Morning Spider
Jimmy Eat World - Clarity
Sebadoh - The Sebadoh (long, longshot but I can dream)
Mogwai - Come On Die Young
Fountains Of Wayne - Utopia Parkway
Tom Waits - Mule Variations
Cibo Matto - Stereo*Type A
Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
Folk Implosion - One Part Lullaby
Gomez - Liquid Skin
Stereolab - Cobra & Phases Group...
Luna - The Days Of Our Nights
The Dismemberment Plan - Emergency & I
The Faint - Blank-Wave Arcade

I would love if one of these happened to be it!
Unfortunately, i think goodbye spider is from 98.
And i think stereolab makes not much sense, because they have a perfect reissue Campaign going themselves

If it's alt rock, as some have claimed, it will not be I See a Darkness.
I would love it to be Sparklehorse or Cibo Matto but I just don't see those happening.

The Holy Bible by Manic Street Preachers would be an amazing 1994 alternative album. They don't remotely possess the balls to pick that though!

From over here Suede's masterpiece Dog Man Star or Pulp's His N Hers would be pretty ace picks.

1999 is Soft Bulletin or bust. Unless they go a little heavier and pick The Fragile. Again thought they don't have the balls.

Watch it be fucking Travis...

You guys are putting way too much stock in Storf genre description. At this point, almost every time he has added a qualifier more specific than rock or jazz, it has been wrong. I'm still waiting for someone to explain why Jim Sullivan is psych, never mind free jazz...

By 1994, any release with guitars was labeled as "alternative" by the labels to cash-in off the popularity of Nirvana & Pearl Jam. So yeah, it could be anything. See post #2,391.

I dont see how picking widely regarded albums like holy bible or fragile requires balls.

A club sending 30,000 copies of albums out to a cross section of socie.ty may not pick an album with Starfuckers Inc. on it or another with Yes and Of Walking Abortion on it. Just a hunch. They wouldn't pick the Manics because America but if they did i guarantee it would be Everything Must Go or This Is My Truth... I don't think they'd ever pick NIN for an essentials

So in short picking albums with their content on essentials takes balls, critically regarded or not.

If they're going NIN, they should go all out and pick Downward Spiral from 1994. It would take balls of steel for them to release something with "Closer" on it.
