Vinyl Me Please Essentials

So are you still really happy about the Queens of The Stone Age ROTM pick @Joe Mac? šŸ¤”

If you worked at VMP and knew about all of this, would you still ensure Queens of The Stone Age gets chosen as a ROTM (you are one of the decision-makers within VMP)?

Iā€™m happy to be getting an album I enjoy, Iā€™m perturbed by what Iā€™ve heard.

These decisions are difficult. How do we weigh infractions and decide what is a no go and what is a reluctant still go there? Lets be honest this is not Wacko or the singer from the Lostprophets territory.

I think the opinion I agree with most on this one is @GritNGlitterā€™s to be honest, Josh Homme is capable of being really shitty but also seems to be a complicated mass of contradictions. Hypothetically Iā€™d still chose this as an ROTM for my club, if I ever lost my mind and agreed to work for Mr Fielder I donā€™t know if I would chose it, I think theyā€™ve been too vocal about not touching artists with any infractions in the past.

Mmmmmmmm I would honestly still choose this to be an Essentials ROTM as well, but itā€™s pretty terrible what that band member did do!

And I'm fine with that. I am honestly happy that it started a conversation about it. Instead of just sweeping it under the rug. Awareness and learning are better than silence. ā¤

I swear, you and I are going to open our own record club one day and Resident Alien will be the only record we ever press.

It'd totally be worth it.
This isnā€™t gonna probably be a popular opinion and while I acknowledge that Resident Alien is a fine album and ā€œIn The Me Timeā€ is easily the best Bowie song written in the past 30 years, It is of my opinion that Spacehogā€™s follow up effort The Chinese Album is their best album overall.

I mean, I'd be down for a pressing of that album too ĀÆ\_(惄)_/ĀÆ

True but exclusivity has never been a reason theyā€™ve given for any ROTM. I mean Aretha is widely available, I can go down my local and buy it on black tomorrow, likewise Al Green and a good number of the classics. We may get exclusive presses but if we expect them all the time we are fools. I just thought it was weird that you highlighted two of the new release rotms which could never be exclusive.

In my defense I made that post half asleep so I have no idea what I was on about either lol.

Guess my point is those feel more ā€œskippableā€œ because they were 100% coming out in a few weeks at other retailers for cheaper. We donā€™t really know when the other other copies of Songs for the Deaf are coming as of now, or the price it will be, so my feeling is if you want it sooner, get this from VMP. totally get wby people donā€™t like them but not having this be a 100% exclusive doesnā€™t bother me in the slightest.

I think the objections aren't so much on the lack of exclusivity, but what strikes people is this "get a three month sub now or you miss out on qotsa" when they full well know that there will be other options.so they are giving the impression that it is a fiona or gorillaz situation, where there is a long wait to get this sought-after album at all except from them.the announcement on the qotsa mailing list at least suggest that that may not be the case.and as i said before vmp banking on fomo that much a mknth in advance may be an indicator in that direvtion, too. There a business and the tactic probably works for them, but for me that is another instance that shows that still calling themeselves a community or a club is laughable.
Again, a caveat, we don't know when and in what form the album will be released additionally.

Honestly, the entire Spacehog catalog is worth listening to.

OK that I agree with! The shady nature of that article that was totally not implying those on one month tracks needed to switch over for me too.
