Vinyl Me Please Essentials

tbh this review made me think a lot more about john mayer and maybe think about giving this album a 2nd chance... who knows... i probably wont buy it but i do see specs of good in there

Behind the Front and Bridging the Gap I quite liked and think are good albums. Not sure I'd consider them essential but then, what is? This is the point, it's ALL subjective.

That's when they used to breakdance and have artists like De La Soul and Chali Tuna doing features

Only if they include the live duet version of “I’m On The Outside” with Fred Durst. “I’m feelin’ those mutha fuckin lighters y’all” they played that all the time on MTV2 back in the day. Fucking Staind and that awful eyebrow ring.

I mean it was pretty hard to escape them in 2001-02. I tried. Oh how I tried... but working in a landscaping job where your co-workers have the rock radio on all day it was essentially impossible. Have you ever looked up all of the countries that album was #1 in? 1 is too many but 5!

I think I've always basically have treated VMP as a store the way @Joe Mac said. I used to buy only records I've streamed before and that I knew I would really enjoy. I absolutely agree with the statement @gaporter made earlier in this thread: everyone should just buy the records they really love and know they want to spin a lot, without any peer or society pressure what they have to like.

It's the best advise to give: just buy what you love. ❤️ If you love that John Mayer record get it, if you don't then don't.

In my opinion the complete Essentials track is just called this way to make it sell, to create a feeling of not belonging if you don't own it. It doesn't mean anything to me and never did. I believe that it's completely subjective which music we like. I'm completely opposed to the idea that there are records that everybody needs to own. To check out yes, but if you don't like them you don't need to own them.

So I'm just treating VMP as a store that allows me to find great new music, both old and new releases and I just buy the ones I like. 🙂

John Mayer said some horrible, awful, disgusting things 10 years ago - no doubt about it. But it was 10 years ago and I think he’s sincerely apologized since then and has learned from it.

LOL, I remember the tail end of the Mook Rock movement with your Stainds and Puddles of Mudds, etc.. fuck I hated that shit. I think that was part of the reason I fully embraced Indie Rock.

John Mayer didn't just say some awful shit. He did some awful shit.

Isn't it hypocritical of VMP to press John Mayer who has been accused of domestic abuse yet refuse to press Nas, according to Storf, due to domestic abuse allegations?

If you still want to buy the record that's fine. I'm not suggesting that the art and artist can't be separated. I still have MJ records in my home, but let's not pass this shit off as the simple ramblings of a self professed douchebag or be willfully ignorant of what promoting this artist means

MJ is 1000x worse than John Mayer. But whatever, you seem set in your ways and that’s fine.

I mean so do you because you seem perfectly willing to justify domestic abuse by saying it isn't as bad as child abuse or whatever or that in a moment where this company says they are supporting black lives and promoting equity in the music industry they press this abuser but refuse to press a black artist accused of the same thing.

Whatever you need to do to feel good about buying it I guess

Michael Jackson isn’t 1000x worse! No way! 🤨

At least musically/discography wise, Michael Jackson triumphs and is way better than John Mayer, even if John Mayer is an incredible guitar player! 👞
