Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I for one continue to hope this is all an elaborate prank pulled by VMP in response to people using the URL trick to figure out the albums early. Continuum just seems pretty off brand as VMP has been marketing their recent picks as albums and/or artists with an interesting story, and neither the album nor JM really have one?

That being said, I'm sure a lot of people will be excited about that pick ... even if I'm a definite Swap myself (and really excited about copping that McCoy Tyner album).

It's difficult to imagine any of those terms describing this pick.... especially for however many 10s of thousands of people are Essential subscribers...still I'm sure they'll sell them. I mean Vinceron will buy at least 20 copies.
None of that has anything to do with the fact that it's objectively wrong.

John Mayer played a guitar solo version of Human Nature at MJ's funeral.

I wonder if this was a trade-off for doing the Dead Anthology. Access to the Dead but you'll have to put up a Mayer record. No idea but it's always been interesting to me how they pick AOTMs and how they gain access to them.

For the 90s picks, I would like to see one from each group below:

Group Rock: Spirtualized - Ladies and Gentleman We are Floating In Space, Tom Petty - Wildflowers, PJ Harvey - Rid of Me, Pulp - Different Class, Guided By Voices - Bee Thousand, Talk Talk - Laughing Stock, Primal Scream - Screamdelica,

Group Not Rock - A Tribe Called Quest - Low End Theory, Public Enemy - Fear of a Black Planet, Tricky - Maxinquaye, Aphex Twin - either Selected Ambient or Richard D. James, Company Flow - Funcrusher Plus

With that being said, I'd be ecstatic with just one of those and I am sure we are likely getting color variations of stuff that's readily available

Mmmmmm that Spiritualized or PJ Harvey album would be such a sweet pick! 👌

But the Tribe Called Quest or Company Flow pick would be the best thing VMP have ever done as an Essentials ROTM! 🏆

The most recent reissue of Bee Thousand is really nice. It is black wax but it sounds great 180g vinyl and a heavy duty Tip-on jacket and goes for under $20.

Yeah, only way I could see this happening is if it's To Bring You My Love, which I don't think is part of the reissues until next year. I would be more than OK with that.

I think all 12 are being done monthly over the course of the next year. I’d imagine it will be announced August to release September. I’m quite happy to have her stuff on any vinyl, colour is irrelevant. I certainly wouldn't touch VMP, even with someone else’s, if she is releasing them herself and I can get them from my local.

It's the same playbook Tom Waits used a couple of years ago. And yeah, good point about VMP - the only Waits record I had trouble with was the Closing Time I got from VMP 6+ times, each worse than the last.

Honestly, even just get a colour variant of almost any PJ Harvey and call it an ROTM and I'd buy it and not ask any questions.

Agree with both of these sentiments. I'm looking forward to replacing my CDs with these vinyl reissues however I can get them.

Hopefully they don’t have Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan remastering them. They butchered his early Asylum records, the new mixes are atrocious, I stuck with my old CDs rather than buying them!
