Yeah, I mean their pick of Essential albums has always been a bit off...but this kicked off a debate as this is the first person I've known that ever held "100th Window" in such high regard. That's always been the case though. Tbh, I think VMP has been doing better with their Essential records actually being essential of late, but they are also the company that picked Sorcerer as their Essential Miles Davis record, the last, middling Sleater-Kinney album that broke up the band as essential, and don't get me started on the Tennis and ole' Dead Eyes (aka Kevin Morby) picks.
I was on the fence about it and it was the wife who demanded we get it lolI just played the first 10 minutes of De-Loused for my wife and she didn't hate it like I thought she would, so it may not even be relegated to the home alone or she's in bed shelf like my Sun Ra collection. This gets more exciting for me by the moment!
That said, I fully dig why the folks that aren't stoked aren't stoked.
Ugh, yeah I just gave it a quick preview and my senses were horribly offended, and now they are mad at me for subjecting them to it.I just gave this a quick listen...and it’s a big no here. I don’t understand the appeal at all but congrats to those who do
I think Essential is subjective. Although I don't consider the album to be one you need to own on vinyl, I think 100th Window is an album that's grossly overlookedYeah, I mean their pick of Essential albums has always been a bit off...but this kicked off a debate as this is the first person I've known that ever held "100th Window" in such high regard.
Agreed, although it's Massive Attack's 4th best album, it's still really solid.I think Essential is subjective. Although I don't consider the album to be one you need to own on vinyl, I think 100th Window is an album that's grossly overlooked
Overlooked sure, but I consider Mezzanine and Blue Lines to be absolute powerhouses.I think Essential is subjective. Although I don't consider the album to be one you need to own on vinyl, I think 100th Window is an album that's grossly overlooked
I think I'd put it tied third with Protection.Agreed, although it's Massive Attack's 4th best album, it's still really solid.
Don't pile on here (perhaps hot take incoming), but I'd far rather have 100th Window than Darkside, if we're talking about "electronic" music.
I'll give you that. Blue Lines and Mezzanine are 10's.I think I'd put it tied third with Protection.
Yeah I think honestly at this point the only question is, are we gonna see any Volta exclusives to go with it. Since Cloud Hill hasn't done any, and don't appear like they're going to. We could see Frances or the others as limited releases. They're going to be crazy expensive to match Cloud Hill if so, but I wouldn't be surprised.
A poster on Instagram who nailed most of the details on the Cloud Hill releases before they were announced, had said that there were both color and black vinyl presses coming for the individual albums. So these could be the color, or it could just be the one.
Interesting. So likely when the single albums release from Cloud Hill. I think that's like, Sept?On Twitter, Storf said no exclusives on announcement day but there's an "extremely good chance" for them later in the year.
Massive Attack rank in order of release 1-3, then the others.I think I'd put it tied third with Protection.
Protection ahead of Mezzanine is insanely criminalMassive Attack rank in order of release 1-3, then the others.
Blue Lines
Protection
Mezzanine
All classic, the rest are really a different band, after Mushroom left because Del Naja turned down Madonna's offer to sing on Teardrop
Turning her down was the correct play. You can't beat Elizabeth Fraser on that one.Massive Attack rank in order of release 1-3, then the others.

Yeah, I'm with you on that. I roll with:Protection ahead of Mezzanine is insanely criminal
