Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I swear I just bought that Modest Mouse record last year at my local for 30 Canadian dollars, it's the one reissued by the band and I'm happy with it.

I can't see myself dropping international pricing on a fancy GZ pressed colour variant... This is my montra this month... We'll see how that works out...
This is a Long Drive with Nothing to Think About is being repressed and has a December release date. I'm sure LCW is right behind it in the queue. So VMP is probably just jumping on that LCW repress, and it'll be splatter or galaxy or some other color variant. I wouldn't expect the VMP packaging to change, as LCW already has that unique presentation with two single sleeve jackets, one for each disc. Could be wrong, but it'll amount to a $20 markup over standard black for some gold foil, an annoying obi strip (that never goes in a plastic outer sleeve without a,fight), and some colored PVC pellets from GZ.

I love Lonesome Crowded West, but Isaac Brock is a jerk at best, and cancelled if what happened in 1999 happened now.
I dunno man...you're probably right who the hell knows what happened with that one.

Edit: Without getting too much into a debate this whole thing went from "The process is fucked, we're going to take shit into our own hands" to "THIS TRAIN HAS NO BRAKES" really quickly, and not like there's a cancel appeal process.

So it is:

Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun (1999, 4 members, Iceland)

Mac Demarco - 2 (2012, 1 member, Montreal)

Modest Mouse - LCW (1997, 3 (main) members, PNW)

Whelp, I'm out. Already own all three on black vinyl that plays without right channel distortion.
Mac Demarco is originally from Edmonton, AB so you can rule him out.

My thoughts are that it is Sigur Ros, Grimes, and then either MM/Built to Spill. I think for the sake of diversity in the track that Grimes makes more sense than Mac DeMarco. Wikipedia lists her origin as Montreal and 4AD is the label, known for having a lot of "Indie Rock" artists. Also allmusic.com lists alternative/indie rock as Visions' first subgenre.

Yeah these are all great albums but incredibly underwhelming picks if they’re just color reissues with nothing better to add. Disappointing three month stretch yet again.
Agaetis byrjun would be the only truly essentials pick out of the bunch IMO. Simply a fantastic album, but I'm worried that GZ may just fuck it up and I don't know how they could possibly improve on the current press.

LCW I'm probably going to sign up for a month to get simply because the flippers prices are insane and out of the three MM albums I need to own it's the last one on my list, but I don't know if I'd pick it over Moon and Antarctica.

I do really like the first half of WWDBTSES but I'm not paying the $55 my local wants for it.

Also, Agaetis byrjun works because it's their second best album, which falls in line of VMP always picking the second or third best album. :ROFLMAO:

FWIW my rankings are:

Takk
Agaetis
Valtari/Meo suo (tied)
Kveikur/Odin's Raven (tied)
Everything else.

Just gave Visions a first listen, and having literally never heard anything by Grimes before I can see how VMP can make that work in a broad "indie rock" definition a la half the indie pop bands they've re-issued in the past. Also... it's kind of an interesting album even if it's not a particularly inspired pick. Probably still gonna swap it if it is the pick, but lots of people will be very on board for that one.

Oddly enough, Sigur Ros will probably be a tougher sell for many subs.

Just did a look around for this one and had a hard time finding one. Amazon resellers were charging hundreds.

Yeah, the Discogs prices for all the Modest Mouse releases are crazy right now, so I guess sellers are betting Isaac doesn't want to do another round of reissues himself.

The only other PNW indie trio that fits for 1997 is Sleater-Kinney's Dig Me Out, but those reissues are still inexpensive.

And S-K has already been Essentials and one of the least successful ones of the past few years.
