Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Well this, and the what will be 6 straight months of jazz in classics eugh, means I can bow out again. What’s the chances of that Fiona Apple being dropped before my membership expires? Slim to none I guess…

This was initially how I felt in Junior High. My first exposure was”Sabotage” and was expecting much of the same and obviously that track was more of an outlier than anything else on the album and since I didn’t really listen to any instrumental music at the time I initially skipped over many of the non-singles (thanks, CD’s). As I got into high school and would cruise around my boring ass small town with my buddies smoking weed this album began to click and the instrumental stuff just helped solidify the album as a larger piece of work as opposed to a collection of singles.

I absolutely love that sequence of Bobo on the Corner > Root Down > Sabotage > Get It Together > Sabrosa. Just a solid block of funky vibing.

colored vinyl and shiny tip-on jackets though, and a booklet. I have an original US pressing I got for $10 near mint, but I'll still probably get the VMP version for the visual aesthetic at least. I don't think there are any bad or great sounding pressings of Nebraska, like you said just a demo style recording of great tunes.
I have the 2015 Bellman cut, I can't imagine GZ topping that, but then maybe RKS makes all the difference?

My problem with Hello Nasty has always been that it felt like Ill Communication pt. 2 and that's the only time it ever felt like they retread. It's great just too much like its predecessor.

Just listened to Check Your Head, Hello Nasty, and Hot Sauce Commitee pt 2.

I haven’t heard CYH in a long time and was interested in picking it up, but honestly after revisiting I don’t think I need a physical copy. Hello Nasty is pretty solid and I can see why some people have ranked it highly. HSC2 is not at all for me. It should be noted that I’m not super duper into the Beastie Boys. Sometimes I feel them and sometimes I think they are ever so slightly annoying. I think they’ve made some great songs throughout their career and I’ve owned and enjoyed most of their albums pre Hello Nasty. I don’t currently own anything of theirs except possibly the Sound of Science cd which I’ve managed to hold onto since forever. Were a Beastie Boys album to make its way into my vinyl collection, I would imagine it would be Paul’s Boutique or Ill Communication.

I definitely prefer Paul's Boutique to Check Your Head, but that's not a disparagement to Check Your Head. It's an album that I think benefits coming back to every 6-12 months and seeing its pleasures. I could listen to PB every week.
