Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

I can almost guarantee it'll sound better than the Get On Down press. But I feel the same way about the art. It's like they just go with the Art supplied by the label and don't ask questions, or even try to do better than standard. It looks really bad.

My local has a Get On Down press and I'm curious to go look at it for a second time to see if the picture is as blurry as VMP. Basing off your Discogs link, it is much sharper then the VMP Press... Oh well. Really not surprised at this point sadly. The front cover art is very obviously a CD blown up as well..

Yeah Get On Down has been using United and NRP for a while which IMO is about as bad as you can get, but likely a necessary evil to keep prices low. I’ll give Get On Down credit for being really nice and dedicated folks (I’ve met the people who run the label a few times) and for being masters of packaging design. I think with this type of release VMP is really at the mercy of what Sony provides them, but this P4K collab seems to be a step down from the Slowdive LP in both mastering attention and packaging.

As you say, oh well. It will probably be the best sounding full vinyl pressing of a southern classic, if unfortunately not the best looking.

Why do either of you think this is anything other than a color pressing of the Get On Down plates? All indicators point to that and not some new cut of it.

Ivy Sole is in the normal store so I think it's more they found more of them or this was the holdbacks for replacements.
Does anyone else think this was a bit of a manufactured FOMO? It was listed as sold out early as ROTM but was available to buy at the store through a backlink for 34 . Then it showed up for swaps and disappeared in a hour or so, then showed up again right after Outkast sold out. Maybe I'm wrong, but something seems a little fishy like they're trying to add a little extra hype to this album.

i just don´t believe they are organized enough to orchestrate such a scheme

According to Storf it was sourced from the “same master” as the Get on Down which I would suspect is either the CD itself or a high-res rip of the mastertape if it was done analog (unlikely but some early 90s rap was all analog). But as @DeadwaxDude confirms it was meant to be a new GZ press and cut, so it should sound sufficiently different.

Yes exactly, I am making assumptions because Rappcats have provided zero information to justify the cost of this so it's all anyone is left to do. To claim that "real fans" will shell out more money for something like this as a justification for the exceedingly high price is odd to me. Yes, many people will buy this and I'm sure it will sell out but SHOULD they have to pay this much for it? I don't think so. I love Madlib but obviously I'm not going to pay this... but the idea that "this isn't for me" simply because I want to know why the price is nearly 3 times the cost of the standard with only a second added disc is a strange angle to me...
I mean, it’s not just a second added disc though. It’s the full album with alternate cover art and different beats than what are going to be on the final retail release plus you get it a month before the street date. I get the price tag was high and they didn’t tell us who pressed it but I personally don’t find the price outrageous for what we actually do know is included. I’m also used to buying Daupe releases that usually cost about $50-$60 bucks for a 2xLP to ship to the states🤷🏻‍♂️ I’d love the prices to be cheaper but at least they are offering a standard.

I'd imagine if VMP wants to do an eventual Essentials with Outkast that if Big Boi wants a repress to give more people a chance to get it and for him to pocket some more money, you do what he wants.

Jon the waitlist where? There's no link. I wonder if it's a standard black wide release second press. I gotta say though, I'm thinking it's more and more likely, especially with this mention of a second press so quickly after announcement, that we're gonna have another Nat Turner situation on our hands here... I hope not but the longer everybody's swaps stay open I'd say the more likely it is...

I’d hope it’s a standard black wide release but we all know who we are dealing with. Let’s see if they can deliver enough of the ones they already sold before we talk about a repress imo...

The only information given was that it will never be repressed in this form, hence "limited".

By saying "Simply includes one extra disc", it is clear that this special edition isn't for you. For me personally, Madlib is one of my favorite producers of all time and I had ZERO hangups about paying the asking price for a Madlib director's cut version of the album. Not every exclusive needs to be for you! Doesn't mean it is overpriced.

"Consumers are being gouged" on a special edition version of a vinyl record is hilarious to me. Like you have no other option but to buy this version? You don't even know what went into the director's cut version, saying it is overpriced is at the very least a premature statement.

If you want that version you have no other option than to pay the $60 (steep but understandable) plus the beyond exuberant shipping which for me and many others comes to more than the records themselves so yes you have no other option than to eat that bullshit charge

and it's the same tracklist I will gobsmacked if that shit ends up being worth it but power to you

Oh dear. So it's a VMP re-press. Because clearly it was SHOCKING that so many people would want this. Ugh... well I look forward to listening to my copy some time in the fall...

They're really running these side subs like a cheap commercial airline. Overbooking and hope some cancellations happen, if not put folks on standby. What I really wonder is how they prioritize who gets the record and who doesn't, along why their forecasting is so frequently off. I'm surprised they underestimated the OutKast appeal after the Nat Turner and Lloyd Miller debacles.

Ha good analogy... I mean again, I don't want to start a panic... we don't know for sure that people who have it ordered right now won't get it, but given their history with this stuff I think it's a fairly safe bet that this may be the case... and at the very least if you have any issues with your copy it's going to be a race to get a replacement sent out before all the holdbacks are gone... At least a repress means if they do follow their pattern of not knowing what in the f*ck they are doing from one moment to the next; you will be able to get a replacement AT SOME POINT... sigh...
