Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

I’M SO EXCITED FOR THIS ROTM! 😍

The colour variant looks so pretty and sexy, and it’s 45RPM and it’s a pretty sexy album too! ❤😈💎

I’m actually really keen to spin this ROTM! And I’m so happy “She Wants To Move” is at the start of Side B! That song has a Flamenco rhythm without the handclap! Such a fiery, sweaty, burst-full, sensual, yearning song! 🔥🐉⚡💦

It’s gonna be amazing playing this record on warm nights this summer ! 👌
This is what I love about Nathan. He has already somehow made me feel better about the pick 😂👌🏼❤ I'm a massive Pharrell/Neptunes fan and In Search Of.... is one of my favourite albums of all time. I actually haven't listened to Fly Or Die since I bought it on release because I was so disappointed with it back then it was just meh to me. I'll be happy to own it now and maybe enjoy it more all these years later. I still agree with anyone that thinks this is another terrible pick in R&HH though

I think it might be too! 🤪🥳🙈🍭

But, what I really like about this album is that it does sound very nerdy, skaterboy, video-game, messy-Room, festival, rebellious like! You know what I mean!? It has that aesthetic which I think is really cool! 😎🛴🎮🎧
I can't disagree with any of that, except it has no place in RHH, and for that reason I will be swapping it for actual Neptune produced RHH in Lord Willin'

Im unfortunately not feeling this pick! It’s such a disappointing pick to be honest! It just doesn’t have the tasteful charm of their debut or the creative edgy-ness Of Seeing Sounds. The music on Fly or Die sounds quite contrived, a bit artificial and formulaic. The instrumentals are pretty half-baked too! And because of this, their goofy ness works against them and comes off as ‘deliberate’...🙅‍♂️😔

Such a bummer VMP chose this N*E*R*D album to be a ROTM! 🤦‍♂️

I still feel a bit mixed to some of the tracks on Fly Or Die. I still think this is also a disappointing pick overall. But the disappointment was more that this was the N*E*R*D album that got chosen instead of In Search Of... or Seeing Sounds!

I think Fly Or Die is a pretty good album and I’m keen to re-discover the album. I’m happy this pressing is 45RPM and looks really good!

But I still do feel that some songs sound goofy and rehearsed. You know that N*E*R*D likes Jimi Hendrix, Parliament, Fly & Family Stone etc, but instead of feeling inspired, sometimes it feels like they are mimicking them. Nah mean?

Anyone else not seeing their membership page properly? I keep trying to log-in to swap, and I'm getting basically a blank screen.

Listening to this again after many years of not. I bought the cd on release and bothered with it for a bit at the time but found nothing impressive about it and kinda just left it. I forgot how much I loved the track "Breakout". The album isnt as bad as i remembered it's actually fine, it's just nowhere near as good as the debut, it's perhaps a bit too pop for me, I think that's the issue but its enjoyable enough overall. Still a bad pick for R&HH they need something big for the sub next month it's been way too long

There’s just something about this album I love! The first song “Don’t Worry About It” really sounds like it would play in a movie, in the scene where the characters are drunkingly enjoying themselves in a grungy, yet funky bar! Pharrell’s falsetto sounds stiff and restraint, and as a result, actually ends up sounding quite like Curtis Mayfield! Like, it’s really sexy! The hard rock riffs and Pharrell’s teasing and poking vocals just are too sexy to handle! He whispers, does his James Brown ad-libs and it makes me want to be a crazy girl like in the OutKast Hey-Ya video-clip and go crazy in the crowd and faint 😂

Musically overall, Fly Or Die is pretty much a straight-forward funk-rock album, but because this album exhibits such an innocent, childish, cartoonish, goofy-ness aesthetic, whilst also being cocky, confident, sexy and rebellious like, it stands out! There’s something really “homemade” about this album too, like it feels like a young punk school band, who are heavily inspired by so many great musicians in the 60’s and 70’s and making a great record! I love the thumping, fuzzy, pop-rock, old-school Sound this album has. It still sounds fresh somehow! And lyrically, I am loving all the stories each song has! It just adds more intrigue to this charming record! 😇

This is such a sweaty, dirty, raunchy, stoner, messy-hair, cigarette and sex kind of record and I’m so here for it! It’s feels like I’m at a gathering where there’s a young, cool, punkish band just jamming out in their garage on a Sunday warm night!! 😈🔥🎸🚬

First track reminds me of Beyonce's Work It Out she did with Neptunes, feels like it should be in an Austin Powers movie lol. Love the enthusiasm all over your post I dont know where you find the time to be so creative and imaginative in these kinda ways but I'm here for it 👌🏼😂😂

Edit: ok so Work it Out actually was in the Austin Powers movie so that's why I thought that duh lol

Not a good start to the new year for VMP.. Fly or Die is an okay album but it's available on red vinyl for £12.99 from all of your favourite Universal Music outlets (udiscover, soundofvinyl, recordstore.co.uk etc.). VMP's exclusive will be hanging about for a long old time.
