There’s just something about this album I love! The first song “Don’t Worry About It” really sounds like it would play in a movie, in the scene where the characters are drunkingly enjoying themselves in a grungy, yet funky bar! Pharrell’s falsetto sounds stiff and restraint, and as a result, actually ends up sounding quite like Curtis Mayfield! Like, it’s really sexy! The hard rock riffs and Pharrell’s teasing and poking vocals just are too sexy to handle! He whispers, does his James Brown ad-libs and it makes me want to be a crazy girl like in the OutKast Hey-Ya video-clip and go crazy in the crowd and faint
Musically overall, Fly Or Die is pretty much a straight-forward funk-rock album, but because this album exhibits such an innocent, childish, cartoonish, goofy-ness aesthetic, whilst also being cocky, confident, sexy and rebellious like, it stands out! There’s something really “homemade” about this album too, like it feels like a young punk school band, who are heavily inspired by so many great musicians in the 60’s and 70’s and making a great record! I love the thumping, fuzzy, pop-rock, old-school Sound this album has. It still sounds fresh somehow! And lyrically, I am loving all the stories each song has! It just adds more intrigue to this charming record!
This is such a sweaty, dirty, raunchy, stoner, messy-hair, cigarette and sex kind of record and I’m so here for it! It’s feels like I’m at a gathering where there’s a young, cool, punkish band just jamming out in their garage on a Sunday warm night!!
