"limited pressing will be sent out to those on the list"

Stay on the list or risk the list filling up and missing out on the next months record

This was a running list, so if you were number 1001 and number, say 420 drops out, you move to number 1000 and are in the club until you decide to drop, letting the next person on the waitlist bump to 1000.

It's a shame because the original idea and model would have been great. It lasted a month and ended up repressed in the end.

I know they are saying it's "random" but there has to be some repeated process or they wouldn't know who to send an email to. First ones off of some list that is sorted somehow.

So. Correct me if I’m wrong.

The original VMP press was going to be different colors. Will the repress will be black? (I thought I read that in this thread.) Will the people who were screwed out of this get the black variant?

That would make me more upset than having to wait. I am not happy but, I am a patient person and have waited longer than two months for a record I paid for. If we do not get what was originally advertised, that’s more upsetting.

False. I’m annual and got the email. Random as... not sure if I’m allowed to curse out vmp but you get the point

Damn, I thought for sure there had to be a rhyme to their reason but it simply looks like they've never had a real plan and are justing winging it. I didn't want to believe that I had just gotten that lucky time after time again.

There shouldn’t be anything different about this at all. My “second press” Nat Turner has identical deadwax markings to those in the first press first posted to Discogs. GZ is pressing these in such small quantities there’s likely no need to even switch out the metal parts.

As for the color, it may be slightly different in final execution, but likely no more so than the variations in the first batch. The whole “different colors” line is a clever CYA move from VMP to get people to stop complaining that their variant doesn’t exactly match the mock-up / product shot.

Remember that the only thing limited about these releases is the artificial limits VMP imposes. They’re just going to reach back out to their two vendors (Stoughton and GZ) and whip up more of the same.

The only information given was that it will never be repressed in this form, hence "limited".

By saying "Simply includes one extra disc", it is clear that this special edition isn't for you. For me personally, Madlib is one of my favorite producers of all time and I had ZERO hangups about paying the asking price for a Madlib director's cut version of the album. Not every exclusive needs to be for you! Doesn't mean it is overpriced.

"Consumers are being gouged" on a special edition version of a vinyl record is hilarious to me. Like you have no other option but to buy this version? You don't even know what went into the director's cut version, saying it is overpriced is at the very least a premature statement.

To be fair, you have no idea what "went into it" either. The fact that you'll buy it without question is why they can do it.

Oh yes. I believe we all went through that with Durand Jones when it came to color description.

I thought that the repress was going to be black and that’s what we(the ones screwed) we’re going to receive. I get if it doesn’t match completely to the picture but, that we would be getting a plain black variant with the repress. Sorry. I should have worded my last message better. :)

Don’t see why it would be a black vinyl pressing. Since they screwed up the desire should be to just make more of the same. I think the only way you’ll be shortchanged is time.

Your concern does remind me of the whole self-rleased MBV Isn’t Anything debacle. Some people who got their orders shipped later actually got a different mastering of the album. To make matters worse, that was supposedly a rejected master that they gave away to early orders as a bonus disc vs a proper repress. Now that was a mess that makes even VMP look organized!

Not sure if this has been said already, but I think a big factor in why this shit happens is because of the poor alternative options for their ROTM. As a huge Outkast fan myself, I know the magnitude of the release, but the other ROTM's are pretty meh IMO.

Take NTR for example. Loretta Lynn and Ivy Sole were the two options that month. NTR was touted as this amazing collection that was never before released and VMP partnered with them to finally put this product out and all this. I'd imagine that many people did not want Loretta Lynn or Ivy Sole, so they decided to swap to NTR. It sold out, and over sold, and fiasco ensues.

Outkast is the same situation. Phoenix and SRT are both pretty polarizing options as alternatives. I'm down with adding most classics to my collection, but SRT isn't up my alley and I'd imagine there's more switching off classics this month than for something like Al Green. Phoenix is something I've personally never heard and from what I'm reading, it has been widely available for less than half the cost on black vinyl. Outkast is consistently referred to as some of the best hip hop, period. Andre is one of the best lyricists of all time. It's the first time the full album is available on vinyl. It's coming in an exclusive color. The alternative options are pretty mediocre. Outkast sells out.

I think the overselling could be due to members who signed up for the other two tracks swapping. Does VMP block existing subscribers from switching tracks because of a sellout?
