Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Lol. If we ever get a Hammer album, M.C. or otherwise, I will get it just so I can tell them it arrived damaged. Seam split? No. Warped? Nah. Scratched? Wrong. It’s. A. Hammer. Album!!! Damaged before it was even packaged.

TBF, an argument can be made for Hammer as essential and I’m sure one day there will be a re-evaluation of his output outside of the fact that it sold well, pushed the mainstream for hip hop, and was a phenomenon in its time.

To be even more fair, I had Please Hammer Don’t Hurt Em on cassette when I was 9. But I also had Vanilla Ice, Color Me Badd, and Paula Abdul so my tastes were, well...that of a 9 year old.
All of this. My first cassette tapes that were actuality mine were Vanilla Ice, MC Hammer, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooz Soundtrack, Kriss Kross - Totally Crossed Out, John Cougar Meloncamp - American Fool, Sir Mix-A-Lot Baby Got Back Cassingle and Meatloaf- Bat Out Of Hell II: Back Into Hell. I would jam out to them through a handheld cassette player through the built-in speaker. I am fairly certain my mother eventually hid from me.

Still blown away by anyone thinking Teflon Don was a poor selection. One of the best rap albums of the decade.
It’s a pretty good album. Maybe like a 6.8/10! Doesn’t even make the top 100 rap albums of the decade for me personally. But it’s definitely not one of the best rap albums of the decade in my opinion. Like I don’t even want to think about putting the tag “best of the decade” when you have albums like Kendrick Lamar “To Pimp a Butterfly” and “good kid, m.A.A.d city”, Shabazz Palaces “Black Up”, Danny Brown “Atrocity Exhibition”, Killer Mike “R.A.P. Music”, Earl Sweatshirt “I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside”, KIDS SEE GHOSTS, Kanye West’s “My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy”, Tribe Called Quest’s “Thank You 4 Your Service...We Got It From Here”, JPEGMAFIA’s “Veteran” Run The Jewels 2 etc etc

I definitely some of those first few you quoted on tape and vinyl (which sadly I don't anymore) as a kid. Along with Hammers Addams Family groove and Bobby brown's On Our Own too

But how about Hammer? You remember the album Funky Headhunters? When he tried to reinvent himself by dropping the “M.C.” From his name and attempted to become a Gangsta rapper?

LOL, I was in Jr. High when this came out and even my pre-teen ass thought this was phony AF.

My internet connection at work sucks so I can’t watch this, but is it the original video for Pumps and a Bump with Hammer wearing a speedo? Cause that video was frightening as hell

Alright, time to break up this party with some truly good RHH news. It's not VMP related, but honestly MUCH more exciting vs what VMP has been offering for the last couple months. RTJ4 is imminent (6/5) and they have a pre-order page up with several vinyl options.

Ordered the 2lp yesterday. Almost ordered the 4lp because its limited and really good value but I won't play the instrumentals so I left it. Did you buy anything?

I got the 2LP version too, and for the exact same reasons you did. Instrumentals are fine on paper, but those voices are so unique and powerful that the instrumental records would just fall flat and never be spun.

Also purchased just the 2LP pink variant too! I won’t be playing the instrumentals! Only instrumental version albums I’ll spin on vinyl are Madvillainy and The Chronic 2001!

I love the two singles so far from this upcoming Run The Jewels 4 album! I’m hoping this album is an improvement over the semi underwhelming Run The Jewels 3! Run The Jewels 2 was amazing! A spectacular sophomore release to their debut! RTJ3 was a bit of a letdown due to around 4 disappointing tracks, even though there were some great bangers, like “Legend Has It”, “Call Tickeron” and “Hey Kids (Bumaye)”!

Pink variant + RTJ4 album cover = 🔥😍🔥😍

Exactly what I thought too! The voices are unique and have so much personality and character would compliment the instrumentals so much! No point in ordering the 4LP, when the instrumentals would sound better with the vocals!

That pink variant is 👌🏼❤ i absolutely love all 3 RTJ albums but I think 2 was that good 3 was always going to feel slightly underwhelming compared but its still 🔥 to me. I've really enjoyed what they have released so far. I'm also looking forward to being able to pre order the now confirmed Fantastic Damage on vinyl too 🔥

I actually never listened to the Madvilliany Instrumentals I must 👍🏼

I am gonna wait and see if there are any other RTJ4 variants available in the coming weeks if not I will just grab the Pink via Amazon for probably around $24-$26, though if that hoodie is still available in an XL come payday I might jump on that.
Some of the clothing looked really nice actually 👌🏼 i never buy it though. Bumps up shipping for me far too much

RTJ3 was too long and had some filler tracks on there like awkward “Down”, one note, blandish “Stay Gold”, the mismatched appearance by Kamasi as well as the odd and boring chorus on “Thursday in the Danger”. “Thieves” had a placement holder, empty chorus which didn’t work in my opinion. The album is 14 tracks (last track being split into two songs). If RTJ3 was trimmed down into 10 or 11 tracks, with Stay Gold, Down and Thursday In The Danger being eliminated. It would’ve been a much better project! 💯

RTJ4 is back to 11 tracks though, like RTJ2! And those first two singles from RTJ4 are short and sharp! Got a real good feeling about this one! 😋

Hope the instrumentals are 🔥🔥🔥 then! 🤞

@Jmcg85 - Would you say The Chronic 2001 Instrumentals Only is the best instrumentals album of all time?!? 🤔😇
Haha well I'd have a very biased opinion in that regard seeing as 2001 is my personal favourite album of all time 🔥

My favourite instrumental hiphop album is donuts but that's obviously not an instrumental of an album

Oh I'm sure they will be thank you Nathan! 🙏🔥

I don't tend to go for them but once in awhile the impulse grabs me. I'll obviously play the main tracks predominantly but sometimes can be nice to get more of a feel of the building blocks. Like going through a construction site to a large hotel while it's being built 👷‍♀️💪. There's beauty and intrigue there even if you wouldn't choose to stay in it for long relative to the finished thing!
