Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Still blown away by anyone thinking Teflon Don was a poor selection. One of the best rap albums of the decade.
I actually really like Ross. Dope lyrics, and nice beat selection for the most part. He can’t seem to make a great album though. He comes close time after time but he can’t seem to help but include a few horrific tracks on every album like “I’m not a star” on Teflon Don. I’m not sure if that sound is a sub- genre or not but there are a few songs that sound just like that on each album that ruin it for me anyway. I have always been an album person as opposed to a singles person. For me to add something to my collection it’s has to be great start to finish. If there are tracks I need to skip, that’s an album I need to skip. And this, like everything anyone says is my opinion, for anyone who might be inclined to misinterpret 😉

I'm not a star is actually one of my favourite tracks on there 😂😂😂 Ross was a great pick. Its a beautiful looking and sounding vinyl. I agree with the Ross assessment, he really can write & rap excellent at times, his ear for production is solid but he hasn't made a classic yet. Everything seems to hit between 3.5 & 4 . Jadakiss is like that for me. Has all the tools necessary to make a classic but never quite pulled it off unfortunately

Haha yeah fair enough. To each their own on that sound, whatever you call it. I’m listing to Teflon don now and have been loving everything after “I’m not a star” but just reached “MC Hammer”, and it completely killed the vibe. Ssssssskkkkkkkiiiiiiiiiiippppppp!😑 I completely agree with everything else you said.

I actually just listened to kiss the game goodbye last week for the first time in ages and it’s so great! Except for three tracks in the middle are terrible. He was so close to a classic with that album. I do have the cd from back in the day but I’d pass on the vinyl due to those three bad apples.

edit: ugh and b.m.f right after mc hammer. In the immortal words of Chief Keef: that’s that shit I don’t like!
I also don’t like that song 😂

Mc Hammer is awful 😑 (imo before anyone starts lol) Jada really did just miss out on classic status with that one. I've got it on cd also. Lose the filler its perfect. That was a big issue in early 00s hip hop. They forgot that less is more most times

Don't want to start anything up again but feel this is fair for anyone playing catch up. Transparency is all.

Yes, I edited my post a minute after I posted it because I didn’t want to hurt your tender little feelings. I’m sorry you had to see that. Happy to pay for the therapy if need be...

TBH, curation doesn’t happen with VMP for other reasons. Albeit there are many definitions, allow me to cherry pick one:

“...the selection, organization, and presentation of online content, merchandise, information, etc., typically using professional or expert knowledge.“

I don’t see the staffers as having professional or expert knowledge. I mean, we’ve read their hackneyed writing about albums.

I look at it that RHH should be the essential RHH albums. Would I buy Future or others that have come through the pipelines on my own? Maybe. But would I expect them to be part of a curation? Heck, no.

Unless the theme of your curation is random albums that rights can be secured for and they think they can make money off of. But that seems like a contradiction in terms there.

But just like haters gonna hate...arguers gonna argue.

Take the L...it’ll be alright. With the right seasoning crow can be delicious.
So much this.

But how about Hammer? You remember the album Funky Headhunters? When he tried to reinvent himself by dropping the “M.C.” From his name and attempted to become a Gangsta rapper?

LOL, I was in Jr. High when this came out and even my pre-teen ass thought this was phony AF.

Never forget that he did sign to Death Row Records from 1995-1996
