Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

I don't think it's his best album but most Kanye West fans do think it is. If we asked Kanye West fans who were fans from the start, then I agree that we would probably get The College Dropout or Late Registration being #1. But for now, MBDTF easily ranks as the #1 Kanye West favourite album amongst all Kanye fans.

The College Dropout I think would come 2nd I'd think!
Yeah for sure. No doubt about it. Oh and to clarify I meant that I’m an exception to the rule because I think MBDTF is the best. Late registration is #2.

I mean personally I'm not trying to argue which is better. Depending on the day, I'd probably pick different ones. I think there is definitely a respectable argument that Illadelph is better. But, we were just talking popular opinion.

RYM is a pretty good source. It's community definitely has some biases but I don't think it is a bad reference keeping that in mind.
Yeah, I'm not trying to argue which is better either. Just which album would rank as the most 'favourite' amongst The Roots fans/which one most would pick as their best work.

By the way, I just looked up Kanye West's RYM profile and O M G!!! My beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has 37,000 reviews and has a score of 4.04 and is ranked the #12 top album of all-time on there! ⭐⭐⭐

The College Dropout and Late Registration are also ranked within the top 100, at #60 and #95 respectively! 26,000 reviews for The College Dropout and 23,000 reviews for Late Registration! o_O🏆

Kanye West is just an incredible artist! I love him! ♥

if only he wasn't an antivaxxer and would take his bipolar meds

I got into Kanye when graduation came out and to me it’s forever my favorite Kanye album. I was the biggest Kanye Stan back then. I definitely think most people would say MBDTF is his best. I love that album as well. Too bad I can’t enjoy a single song of his anymore. I enjoyed it when I could.

i also would say Thungs Fall Apart is the best Roots album. Although, my personal favorite is How I Got Over. I think out of all their albums, How I Got Over May have the best hooks. The Hook writing in that album is incredible.

Personally I love this more than anything that was on White Bronco. Soooooo dope to see that he finally linked up with Tommy Mas again!

Same. This is very Blue Chips style. Reminds me of Blue Chips 2. That's why when he previewed it I assumed it was a Party Supplies beat. I'm definitely excited for this album even though I'm not a dolphin so it's technically not for me but fuck it

To me, The College Dropout, Graduation and Late Registration will always be the pinnacle of Kanye's sound. I actually find Yeezus to be my next favorite album of his after those 3. I think MBDTF is his most over rated album and my favorite song is the first one which was produced by RZA anyways. Definitely some gems on it but I honestly don't get the universal adoration for it. I also don't understand the love for TLOP. I can't find one single song on it that is redeemable and I've tried to give it a shot on more than one occasion.

It’s a brilliant mess. There is A LOT going on and this might sound like an odd comp but it reminds me of Brian Wilson w/ SMiLE; a lot of half finished ideas but the stuff that made it out IMO was special. I would say the opening 6 or 7 tracks or the album are fantastic. The end of the album (outside of “Wolves” and “No More Parties In LA”) feel more like outtakes than actual songs but again even those unfinished parts have astounding moments and also kind of expose his creative process especially when comparing the different versions of the album that ended up being released.

Can't get through the first 30 seconds of any of them before I hit skip. And his lyrics, although they've never been amazing, are just lazy and say nothing of meaning at all. I agree with your take on it being a mess, but I would not say anything is brilliant about it. It's peak insane Kanye, and not in a good way. Just my personal hot take on it. I have tried to go back and give it an honest re-listen to based on so many people having positive things to say about it but it just does absolutely nothing for me.

Well FWIW I think Chance was fairly involved with a lot of the lyrics. My initial reaction upon my first listen was that TLOP was that is was trash but I kept getting pulled back to it I think it ended up being my second favorite album of the year (A Moon Shaped Pool was top). It definitely didn’t click right away but once it did I became enamored with it. IMO that was his last album where he was at least able partially check his worst instincts and though it is not perfect I really love it.

College Dropout is my favorite hip hop album of all time. When that came out, it just embodied everything I was listening to in hip hop at that time (conscience/soulquarians stuff), and threw it all together into this great album. Also seeing him live shortly before it dropped, he immediately had this larger than life vibe. Also, Jay-Z was my #1 at the time, so it helped having some context into what he was doing prior to the album with his production and what not.

Not my all time favorite hip-hop but my favorite Kanye album for sure. I too was really in to Jay and it was like every single was either produced by Kanye, Just Blaze or the Neptunes good stuff.
