Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

New clue (sort of) from Storf:

"Both albums are by unarguable geniuses (and if anyone denies, they’re wrong, not me this time) but both albums have been famously overlooked, causing each artist to display unique public consternation."
I think the Rap & Hip-Hop ROTM will be Ghostface Killah's Apollo Kids as it was an album that was definitely overlooked, as it charted 120 on the billboard 200, and it probably was overlooked due to the semi disappointing Ghostdini album he released the year beforehand as well as a Method Man, Ghostface & Raekwon collaborative album that was released the same year (as Apollo Kids)! 💯

Wu-Massacre which was also released in 2010 debuted at #12 on the billboard 200!

Apollo Kids was also released in 2010 but debuted at #120 on the billboard 200! 💡💡💡

Ghostface Killah is an absolute genius, and Storf is a huge fan of his work. It looks like the R&HH ROTM will definitely be Apollo Kids and I am so happy about that!🎬🏵🔦💎

I thought it was relatively well received as a return after the flop of Ghostdini.
But it was an album that was definitely overlooked! It received very little attention, hence being overlooked! And it's an album that doesn't rank is Ghostface Killah's top 3 at all much, with Ironman, Fishscale, Supreme Clientele usually ranking amongst his best!

Also, how does Ghostdini fit into the '120' clue! We have to remember that too!

Oh I don't really think it's Ghostdini. But, describing Apollo Kids as "famously overlooked" when it charted and was well received by critics seems like a pretty big stretch to me.

mmmmm I know there you're coming from. Apollo Kids charted at #120, whereas the album Ghostface Killah released beforehand charted at #28, and the album he released after Apollo Kids charted at #27. So I think in a way it was 'famously overlooked', because how could a such a great Ghostface Killah record be charting poorly like that in comparison?

I get where you're coming from. I still think it's a stretch. If we can find a record of him "displaying unique public consternation" regarding it being overlooked, it'll fit better though.

Very happy with this R&HH ROTM pick! This will be the 3rd time in a row, VMP have picked an excellent R&HH ROTM pick! The Prince Paul and Lord Finesse picks were incredible and so is this Ghostface Killah one! All hip-hop albums are ones that are very 'hip-hop' if you know what I mean too! Couldn't be happier with how the R&HH track is going at the moment! 😃👍

I don’t know how people are overlooking this. It’s gonna be a Gza album. Not Ghostface.
What GZA album do you think it will be based on that clue and the '120'/'132' clue?!?

I definitely think it's still Apollo Kids but I'm interested to see what you have to say!

I still think its Apollo Kids. I've always said its a forgotten gem in hiphop and gfks stellar catologue. It has still to this day always been overlooked imo despite its superb quality and critical reception

I mean, saying someone would love a GZA album because they like Ghostface is kinda weird. But maybe Legend of the Liquid Sword since he has a feature? Wouldn't be an exciting pick I don't think.
Yea—Ghostface is on Legend of Liquid Sword. And your last sentence kinda cements it haha

Legend was a disappointing album for Gza. Despite being liked by critics, it didn’t even go gold.

And Ghostface Killah left Def Jam after that album! It is definitely an overlooked album, by a genius, and the album debuted at #120 on the billboard!

Storf says they are inarguable geniuses. You can’t get mad at Storf because Gza’s nickname is literally “the genius”. Classics could be Monk (The Genius of Modern Music) or Ray Charles (also known as The Genius).

Yeah guys, he said they were "unarguably geniuses" and said this time if anyone disputes it they're wrong, not him. It's for sure GZA. Knowing the way people are with picks there is ZERO chance Storf says that if it's even possible that it could be a matter of opinion. It's fact. So it's his name. Has to be.

EDIT: HAHA you beat me to it

In retrospect, it is a little odd for VMP to say, "if you like Ghostface you'll dig the next RHH album." Like... "if you like Ghostface, then you're gonna like this Ghostface." Would they be so forthcoming with it?

I can totally see it being a collab or an album where he's featured but not the main artist. Ok yeah, Legend of Liquid Sword suddenly makes a whole lot more sense. Just gotta figure out how 120 would fit it.

People took this “debut at 120” on the billboard and ran with it to fit an album they wanted. I don’t think it has anything to do with it. It’s likely just some word count thing again like he did with Albert King. We know the clues always mean the same thing for each track. The classics album isn’t going to be 132 on the billboard haha. I’d be really surprised.

I could also see Storf/their twitter handler saying “oh well if you want Ghostface you’ll like the RHH because both guys are in Wu-Tang” without knowing how different those two guys’ albums are.

You're right, but to say it off of one feature is pretty silly too!
