Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Oh, yes, I forgot.....a color (silly me).

You brought this on yourself. I am currently mind-melding with the supreme being. I'm pulling out Hebrew prayers I haven't said since I was 13. I'm pretty sure I just said the prayer for the dead and for lighting the Hanukah candles. But suffice it to say....you will NEVER see Fishscale (I don't wanna brag....but my people are kinda the supreme clientele).
I would prefer VMP to do Ghostface Killah’s Supreme Clientele but that’s isn’t possible at the moment! I really, really, really want VMP to do an exclusive of Fishscale! I ♥️ that album so much! I need it! But Fishscale is expensive on Discogs right now! The cheapest ones listed are either graded as ‘Good’ or have inserts missing. The first decent one listed is USD$50+!

It is pretty decent overall but quite mediocre in my opinion. I feel like GZA lyrically and energy wise is the main letdown of Pro Tools. His energy doesn’t match a lot of the production on that album - it sounds very awkward!

Like what the hell is up with the chorus on ‘Short Race’ and GZA’s sleepy verse on that one. ‘0% Finance’ again sounds mismatched in terms of GZA’s delivery and the production! Sounds like he’s tripping over the beat and can’t keep up with it. ‘Life Is A Movie’ is even more mismatched and GZA again doesn’t sound right at all. And what is up that melodramatic chorus...so awkward! GZA’s Pro Tools is just as bad as 50 Cent’s Curtis lol

I love Liquid Swords so much and enjoy spinning that one. But I would’ve been happy if the R&HH ROTM pick was Legend of the Liquid Sword! That album is much more exciting and fresh. Pro Toole sounds really dated unfortunately.

The production on ‘Paper Plate’ however is something special! That beat is crazy good!
I agree that Legend of the Liquid Sword would be a way better pick than Pro Tools. Again...not something I would buy (I have it on CD so I'm good + new pricing + trying to be more discerning w/ what I add to my collection) but still much better choice.

TBH, I wouldn't want Liquid Swords. It would be redundant. There's enough good copies out there. Even Fishscale doesn't really need it but I'd be more excited about that

Oh, okay wow...it's getting up there for that condition. I got mine about 3 years ago (Sep '17 - I just went back to my Discogs order archive to look) in mint condition (still sealed) and paid $21.95.

Edit: also, fun fact...it was on an order w/ Nas' Street Disciple

Also...so what you are saying is you've never listened to Pro Tools?

i mean i haven't even finished liquid swords because the lispy flow kinda didn't interest me for the first 3 songs... obviously i didn't listen to a mediocrely reviewed album from the same person

it means its a joke and no one praises it

its got a 2.7 on RYM.. thats not a good score
Don’t focus on the RateYourMusic score! I think it’s a bit narrow-minded to just look at RateYourMusic because you will never see an album like Britney Spears’ Blackout, ranked well on that site...regardless! I know 2.7 is a poor score, and it’s well deserved of Pro Tools to get a poor score like that, but still listen to the album first! I know there’s albums they would be ranked even worse than 2.7 that I would love! 🙂

and since i seem to have trouble listening to gza (just put me on the list of worst hip hop fans). i am trying pro tools and its still not very good... his voice doesn't fit with the beats... it feels like he needs even more moody and low fidelity beats that can fit his lispy voice.. its still at the very least C tier..

but then again GZA only has like one classic to most people

though im also trying to be negative because unless an album has way too many songs or doesn't have a great headstart i love almost every album i hear (i dont rate things under a 5/10 because unless its shit like merzbow where i dont see the appeal, i like everything). and i dont wanna waste 33 dollars on an album considered a joke.. i mean you all got at me when i dont like the white stripes that much but enjoy john mayer

i dont wanna be the weird shithead that likes the beats on pro tools but somehow cant get through liquid swords

Because Pro Tools is ranked 2.7 on RateYourMusic and got released in 2008, I thought I’d look at the top ranked albums of 2008, and there’s not a single hip-hop album in the top 50! I remember 2008 being such a weak year for hip-hop! The only hip-hop albums I really enjoyed from that year were Lil’ Wayne’s Tha Carter III and Q-Tip’s The Renaissance! Even The Roots’ Rising Down and Elzhi’s Preface were just ‘good’ in my opinion and nothing special! 🤷‍♂️

And I remember being so letdown by Common’s Universal Mind Control because I really liked his two albums beforehand - Finding Forever and Be! 🤣

It’s true! His voice flow is mismatched with the beats! That’s why it’s rated so bad on RateYourMusic. I would rate the album like 4/10! It would be an album I’d definitely skip if it was the R&HH ROTM! It would be my 2nd skip, the first one being Future’s Honest!

i think i just dont like GZAs lisp....

maybe its because i hate my own lisp.. maybe its because it doesn't work with these beats.. maybe its just bad.... maybe im just a shitty mumble fanboy who cares about a catchy voice and flow and dont deserve to be called a fan of hip hop when the real shit is wu tang and tribe and all the other stuff
GZA’s Liquid Swords is one of my favourite hip-hop albums ever! It’s a masterpiece and I love love love love love it! ♥️♥️♥️

I’m still hoping the Rap & Hip-Hop ROTM is GZA’s Liquid Swords! 🤣🤞

i've tried to listen to it in full so many times i just am tired of songs like duel of the iron mic and the title track.... so i dont like it... doesn't help that i still dont like the lisp

As someone who loves Radiohead, please do not trust a website who has three Radiohead albums in their list of the top ten albums of all time.
Actually this needs an addendum

Don't trust any website, critic, opinion leader, etc. to tell you what's good and what isn't. You can never know if an album is good or bad without listening to it yourself. Just because a bandwagon says an album is bad doesn't mean it is. Listen with your own ears and judge it on your own. Listening to an album to form your own thoughts is not a waste of time - listening to music can almost never be a waste of time. If you don't like it, you can turn it off, give it time, return to it, if it clicks, it click, if it doesn't, you've realized it's not for you. But don't let others make up your mind for you.

how do you listen to an album in full having the urge to pause it and do something else... thats my issue with liquid swords... i am supposed to albums in one piece because concepts and details and stuff that i would miss if i pause and end up forgetting something....

i had to listen to those first 3 songs fucking 20 times but i haven't heard the other 80 percent so it could be fucking amazing... but im sick of "when the MCs CAME"
