Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Interesting to see Shabaka in there after all this time. Really surprised at that.
VMP didn't want to have it at a Swaption at USD$23! Maybe they were planning this price hike particularly for this month, as they know its a very strong month...and thought to themselves "Shabaka can be a future Swaption here, so then there's at least some more to swap for that is worth USD$33"!

Damn, thats a great point!

The main sub jump is definitely the big hitter, but with the bridge it isn't actually that price for everyone (for now). Still, it's definitely expensive and would be at the higher end of what I would be willing to pay with postage elsewhere.

In terms of the typical spending, it might just be the kind of records we are picking up, but for me it's not uncommon for a new release to be around the £20-£25 with shipping on top. Just looking at my play pile and one of the new releases (90% of my purchases are for 2nd hand) is Nat Birchall - Mysticism Of Sound, which cost £26.89 inc postage. I thought this was a good deal as well, Mr Bongo has it at £27.99 plus £3.50 postage (unless the postage has gone up since I last bought from them). The difference is that with the other purchases I will actively be looking for that release as its one I want. With the club aspect, at the best its going to be one I have been wanting to get, and at the worst, I won't be interested at all. I'm not really into Spiritualized so I will swap for Sonny Rollins. It's not an album I have been actively seeking, but certainly one I will like to have knowing it's going to have a good pressing/package.

The main sub would be around £31 if you do the 6-months with the bridged offer. For sure there are records which would likely be more appealing for around that price here in the UK, but I'm also factoring in the access to the store items and free shipping. Chet Baker - Mr B is one that I would have looked to get had VMP not released it. Rough Trade has a coloured pressing limited to 1500 (which is a similar comparison to VMP's coloured pressing limited to 750) for £34.99 plus £4.02 postage (£39.01 total). I paid around £22 from VMP (which is a more limited pressing) with free shipping.

With the Tone Poet example I was just going with the standard price for a fair comparison (otherwise you could just say VMP pressings are cheaper when in their sale). Im like you in the sense that I wait for the TP's to drop, and haven't paid anything over £25 for them to date (the killer dodax deal on the 2lp Cassandra Wilson for £20 will be hard to beat!)

Also, I realise that this all sounds like I am defending VMP. Im really annoyed they upped their price and I cant see myself staying after the 6-month bridge. But just from a finances aspect, they are still the cheapest option for me at this time.

Yeah I buy 99% in store so postage isn’t A consideration. I wouldn’t get the bridge so say I wanted an album i likes it’s $52 which is €43 or £39, way more than I’d pay for a standard enough pressing in a fancy colour. As for $33 that’s €27 or £24 which is the high end of what a 1 LP goes for new from my experience buying in store on both sides of the Irish Sea, that said it’s not just that it’s highish, as much as it is that I can’t see how an almost 50% increase can be justified, even if the thing was cheap before.

I had to stop myself several times to remember that majority of what I wanted to swap for was under the $33 I would pay for an add-on. Makes sense that they would now add more swaptions, but man half of that stuff was $23-27 in the store.
Exactly this, how many one track subscribers are going to end up paying $43 to swap for a VMP Rising record?

Ok so I swapped classics to jaunt to ensure I’ll get it after swaps. If it’s still in stock in the store by the time swaps close on the 31st I’ll cancel my classics track and then buy it with the credits I’ll receive from my main sub.

If it’s not in the store after swaps close I’ll have to bite the bullet and get it for $33 unfortunately
