Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Are you referencing the SA-KI Ruby?

If so, I've looked at that. It does seem to be a great component. At $4,000 it is outside my self-imposed cap of $3K. Of course, who knows when I actually go to pull the trigger....I may spend more with some sort of self-soothing justification as to why it was worth it.
I should have been more clear, when I said "keep an eye out" I was implying for a used unit. They normally hit the market for under $3K.

I just suggested this on another forum, but if you don't need the network features at all, and you can get by just running a computer into the DAC, I'd keep an eye out for a Marantz Ruby DAC/SACD player. That unit is next level. You'll be done for a long time unless you just dislike the Marantz house sound.

Im confused because we’ve been referencing a new marantz unit that’s inside his budget new, has a usb plug in DAC and seems to be reviewing well. Yes there are network features but you can still both play CDs/SACDs and plug in a separate network Roon endpoint, network drive through usb if you either don’t want to use HEOS or if it becomes outmoded. I really don’t get your issue once it has the connections that allow you to bypass the inbuilt network features.

But I checked them, all warped. So you guys don't want them anyhow.

I'm going to melt them down and turn them into a giant statue of myself to put on my front lawn.
Just for the record because so many people asked (no one asked) the statue is going to be a ten foot tall statue of me carving a nine foot tall statue of me who in turn is carving an eight foot statue of me who strangely enough is also carving a seven foot tall statue of me and so on and so forth ad infinitum...

I want to send some warps to this cause. Where do I sign up?

Haven't been following this thread but I have a couple of open orders from several months ago when I was a member.

Has Sunshine man shipped for anyone? If I haven't received a shipping notice by now should I contact CS?

Showing as In Stock and Pending for me. I just had shipping notice for a big batch the other day (10 records - including Fiona's, @Skalap) and it wasn't included, so guessing its not actually in hand.

Oh, absolutely no issue with the 30n. That also looks like a quality unit. But once streaming was mentioned to be more of a bonus feature instead of a "must have" feature, I figured I might suggest that he could be looking towards another level up to Marantaz top of the line.

But is streaming is needed in that price point, I think the 30n appears to be a solid selection as well.

I have a feeling the higher end of marantz will be getting a re issue in the next year or so too because they’ve been out a while and this seems to be the new design language. Gotta day I much prefer the 30 series design to the old ones.

And I don't mind the suggestion (I also revel in the detours the VMP threads take when this should so clearly go in the equp rec thread :p). Like I said, I've looked at it and know its prestige; but I'll always take a second look. Having WIFI is a plus w/ the 30n (then I don't have to bring my laptop over and connect the USB, but can rather have the 30n tethered to the same music library on my desktop). At less $500 than the Technics (and HEOS MAY be more user-friendly than Technics' app), the 30n may be nicer. I'm still trying to figure out what DAC the 30n uses but I haven't read much of the literature yet.

The major downside for the SA-KI is finding it (used or new). From what I can see is they were limited to 999 units in each finish.

I really like the look of the 30n. First thing I thought of when I saw the front-panel finish (to the left and right of the main display) was the carbon-fiber honeycomb finishes that are popular on motorcycle aftermarket parts.

Yeah for all the DAC functions they are listing “Marantz Musical Mastering” rather than a DAC chip. By the sounds of it all disc and file digital is up filtered to DSD 256 and then converted by this “Marantz Musical Mastering”. I’m wondering whether they’ve decided to move away from a chip based DAC and towards a software based DAC process, I know PS Audio use such a solution for their higher end DACs.

Yup, that's totally fair. And it's easy to see that internally they follow a lot of the same design philosophies. Both of the 30 Series pieces look quite similar to their Ruby counter parts. You can see various different caps, elements on the DAC board, slightly different transport, and looks like a slightly larger power supply. Plus the big ticket item being the copper plated chassis. But the designs are clearly using one to inspire the other.

From what I understand their transport is a bloater, PS Audio were commenting on how they have to put a small dip into the underside of their new transport to fit it into their chassis. I hear that this is the same lazer but that they’ve cut down on the size of the chassis to slim it down a bit for the new models. It share the same 3 number but with an L on the end.

Ok, I saw the MMM mentioned but I'm not overly familiar with Marantz builds. I've looked at some of their stuff but its never made its way into my home or even gladiator ring as a final contender so never looked that much. I'll keep that in mind when I start reading more. Thanks!

Yeah as a new model there’s scant detail out there about it. Hopefully more will come out as it gets into the hands of more reviewers and the overly talky sellers.

I mean I might even go in for that. I’d PIF that jam band nonsense and keep the €3k amplifier 😂

Also VMP explorations in sound?
🤮🤮🤮

Yeah, I think “VMP Explorations in Found Lost Sounds” would have been more on-message.

same. what an oddly worded email and weird "oh fyi" sentiment. as if they haven't been totally silent on it since it was on sale. a half a year ago. when i read e-mails like this one i just want to grab someone there and forcefully shake them.

yeah, it’s the casual assumption that their customers just throw money at records and don’t really care when they receive them that makes it seem like they (VMP) don’t really care if they stay in business. It makes it easier for me to cut ties with them now that I have my Spiritualized and my kallax is full.
