Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I think also you have the Discord where a good portion of the boosters will just live which leaves less on sites like Reddit. I truly think this is the time the bubble goes pop. Prices are absolutely bonkers now even for wide release stuff, no one has any money, and corporations are making record profits (pun intended). I think a lot of people are going to bail on it as a hobby.
I am not gonna bail but I am cutting way back. I have around 1800 albums and l feel like I am always playing catch up with my new additions that I don’t fully get to enjoy my library of wax. My plan is to cut down to 1 or 2 albums a month. And with all these price increases, it makes that decision even easier.

I’m on the discord since there are some interesting tidbits dropped every now and again about upcoming releases. It was a bit more divided than I thought. People seemed upset about a few things:

*no heads up about price hike on store items or heads up on membership hike to give people a chance to renew at old price or buy more in the sale.

*previously swapped credit being devalued now

*announcement that GZ is pressing everything then raising the price. More money for worse product.

You had some people saying “$3 more a month won’t break the bank” but don’t understand that these are now past AP/MoFi/Impex prices for GZ pressed records.

I do hope VMP’s plant reaches QRP/RTI kind of quality. Especially for the price they charge.

My plan for VMP going forward, for now, is strictly one per month until my subscription expires in August, then I’ll reevaluate based on how good the picks have been. Historically I’d just add on a track or two if I was interested in more than one ROTM… but no more!

I’m going to sell off a good chunk of past impulse buy exclusives too. So many I just listened to once and shelved😬… Good shit too, like those Flying Lotus albums and Stax and Motown anthologies. I just don’t foresee listening to them much 🤷🏼‍♂️

I have waffled on trying to get the Stax or Motown anthologies but realized it’s mostly one or two titles from each I’d really love and listen to a lot. I picked up a breakout of Syreeta on eBay and it’s amazing.

Yep, pretty much my plan - backfilling the few from each box set I care about... I picked up the Supremes album from RSD BF, and just got that Otis Redding box set. Most of the artists in the Stax anthology have better albums that came out as VMP Classics anyway. I recall feeling underwhelmed listening through that anthology in general (not sound-wise, just with the records they picked).

Does anyone know if it's possible to cancel a sub (1-month) after being charged? I got charged for my sub (RHH) but i kinda don't want it as i already have an OG and i could put that money towards something better.

Contact CS. They should take care of you. They charged my PayPal account for my three month renewal (I requested they use my store credits, but due to the holidays I don't think they got the request before my sub renewed automatically. I contacted CS and they refunded my PayPal account fully and used my credits even though I'm pretty sure I was about $10 short.

I'll shoot them an email. They've usually been very helpful but wasn't sure on what their stance is on cancel/refund of subs, especially 1-months. But the record is delayed until later this month so it hasn't started processing yet (i think) so it should be pretty easy for them to cancel and refund.

VMP didn't want to miss out on boarding this train(wreck). Quote from the article:

Revisiting this article (and actually reading it through), I wonder if prices change depending on the store in question and their buying power (not sure on how it works tbh). I know one of the stores in the article (Millpond), and I wouldn't consider them a player at all. In fact last time I've been to them they were operating out of a junky house acting more as an antiques store than the book store they used to be. They deal more in used records than new for the most part.

Been over 20 years since I worked music retail but back then cost was the same across the board for all retailers, but the mark-up differed greatly from store to store (a&b sound and Future Shop would sell CDs below cost and make up the margins on their electronics - which really fucked the game for the smaller shops who had to sell for MSRP, or closer to at least) but there would be additional discounts and kickbacks for bigger bulk buys as well. So if it's the label raising costs, it'll likely affect all shops but look a bit different based on buying power and the ability to absorb some of the difference or not.

Update: no problem! Sub canceled and refund issued. Didn’t give a reason or anything on why I wanted to cancel.

Now to spend that money elsewhere lol

I had a few friends who worked in the warehouse at A&B. They would get an employee discount on everything (15%) and it was applied to the store price not the MSRP. So they would buy cds and and sell them to local stores. Until management caught on they were making a a buck a cd.
