Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I grabbed it as an accideal off of Amazon for $10 last year. I listened to it once and then sold it though. It’s a fine album but it’s not something that was gonna find it’s way to my turntable enough justify the space it’d take up on my shelf. I wouldn’t mind picking it up on cassette tape for like $2 as some point though.

Yeah, I need to sell as well. It was fun but not fun enough to keep around.

As someone who still has my accideal copy of this sitting sealed in the Amazon box, I too need to sell/pass along.

When this month’s picks were announced I was considering all four, cut forward to the price rises and I’m getting none. The bloom is certainly off the rose now, for many (soon to be former) members.
I was in for Earl and maybe a swap or two....but it's been two months since i cancelled and just received what may be my last store purchase yesterday.

I'll keep an eye on next quarter's picks but it's going to take a stellar pick to get me back, and even then it's not going to be the multiple track orders I usually got.

To be fair though, I've slowed down significantly even on non-VMP purchases. I'm really taking the time to decide whether it's worth ~$50CAD for me, and most of the time it's a no. Tons of stuff just abandoned in my cart.

With the price increase I need look at the RoTM and say, if I were in a store and saw this would I buy it no questions asked? If it's anything but an instant yes I doubt I'm going to bother! Honestly, I stay mainly for the Hip Hop track as I find most Rap records in Canada tend to be pricy already and they seem to pull off what look like real exclusives here and there!

I really like the Young Fathers record. Cut by Matt Colton. I got the white vinyl color variant from Plaidroom instead since it was cheaper than VMP.
How's it sound? I find the high res is hit and miss in terms of mastering/recording quality. Curious how the vinyl turned out.

I think the vinyl sounds solid. It’s a quiet sounding press and MPO did a nice job on it. Need to listen to it at a louder volume but been tricky to do so with the in-laws in town and the little kiddo. I’ll have to compare it to the stream but on first listen didn’t think it was wildly different to the high res stream. The overall mastering still has some of that distortion on some of the instruments but it seems purposeful.

I really like the album overall. It reminds me a bit of TVOTR. Need to go listen to their older stuff.

That TVOTR is EXACTLY why I like it. I'm dying for something new from them, and this is kinda filling that space for me. Thanks for the mini review, the only reason I'm going VMP is I have credits. Really like the two tracks from the new Yves Tumor release as well so I think I might also grab that one. Reminds me a bit of Bloc Party.

Yea it’s such a cool album and I do think I’ll spin it a lot. I gotta check out that new Yves Tumor and probably get a copy of Heaven To A Tortured Mind on vinyl. Kerosene was one of my favorite songs the year that album came out.

Didn’t one of the members of TVOTR die? I’d be kinda surprised if they ever release a new album sadly. They were one of my favorite bands in college. Saw them play at the Brooklyn Masonic Temple and it was an incredible show

He died before the last album. And maybe before the one before that.

Yeah he died after the second album I think? So that's not the reason they stopped. I mean hell I'd even take solo albums, ANYTHING.

EDIT- nope I'm wrong. 2011 same year as 4th and then they released a 5th 3 years later. Then nothing but they haven't officially broken up either.

I feel like every few years there’s an album that reminds me of TVOTR. Yves Tumor reminded me of them and now Young Fathers. agree though I’d love anything new by TVOTR.

I saw them twice on his last tour, when they were on the road with Broken Social Scene. I was surprised they did anything after. They had such great chemistry together as band. But I'd love another too.

Speaking of TVOTR, Either of you familiar with Kyp Malone’s side project Rain Machine? I wasn’t until tonight, I was looking through my local recent arrivals used Section online and came across it. Looks like he released a single self-titled album in 2009. It’s really good, worth checking out especially if your looking for something to scratch that TVOTR itch.
