Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Yea I think these are more like Ask The Ages than the JD series if that makes sense. I hope they continue the series too and they probably will if these sell well!

Edit: my rule of thumb is if VMP releases something on black vinyl that’s a limited store exclusive, it’s not gonna be reissued elsewhere with the same plates. If it’s a color vinyl release in collaboration with another reissue label, it’s fair game to get another pressing elsewhere
Ah man everytime I remember or someone mentions the Ask The Ages I want to relisten to it!

Great rule and makes sense for sure.

I think the best way to casually keep up is to get the weekly preview of store drops on Monday AM and ask questions via the Q&A’s. If you have general questions too, Storf and Pauly seem pretty open to answering them.
For sure. But so many hints at what’s coming up or what titles to expect in the future (like the Sly store drops). This capsule collection was mentioned maybe 6 months ago on discord and wasn’t on many people’s radar

Oh things come fast and furious for sure, but thought that was just a way to dip toes in and not get completely immersed or have it be a total time suck.

This fucking company is starting to compromise my future retirement fund.

Except it would seem sales are down for the year so far. The industry may decide to market correct or fleece us for what they can while they can.
Don’t underestimate the avarice and short-sightedness of any corporation. Grab that $5 today instead of working to build a sustainable industry for the future. Not like what happened to the music industry at the turn of the century will ever, ever happen again.

People think just because it is a vinyl record, they can charge stupid prices. Even artists with who have next to no following are over charging but certainly VMP and others are extremely guilty of it. I wonder how much VMP makes off each record they sell?

Enough that they can essentially give away several box sets in swaps. Yes this was done to great buzz and FOMO, but also didn’t hurt their bottom line either.

isn't giving away stuff for way below cost of manufacturing also a way to get tax writeoffs? i see tons of companies doing this with stock that isn't selling. Then they can claim it as a loss. So it probably helps companies in more ways than one to do this. Generates buzz for titles that haven't sold out and have been sitting for awhile + tax writeoffs.
