Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

think the booklet is just pointless. They keep struggling to make it work but I think it will get tossed aside soon enough.
I say this as one who liked the Booklets when I was a subscriber and liked the bandbox zines but the decision to put big Booklets into everyones box might be more coming from a position of pride and overrating the values of their literary output than from a clever Business standpoint. I had the impression here or with bandbix ge Booklets/zines were not a Solling point for many people so with the magazine they add cost and logistics issues. I guess it feels better for the writers to get their stuff published in a physical Format butvi would think gettingvthaat out as a pdf to subscriber would be the cleverer way. As I said, I liked those Booklets and store them with the records but if it is a magazine that is not specific for the record it would probably get tossed even by me. I don't know I'd the wrimprovedthat much that it warrants keeping the zine. On the shelf

When they start saying there are shipping delays because of "printing the listening notes" CANCEL YOUR SUB!!!

Lots of interesting points here and most make total sense (to me anyway). Im ONLY 45mins in but here are my key points:

Keen to revamp the Swaps into something more interesting, especially for long term members who might have seen the same records months at a time.

Rock tracks are hard to secure. Part of transitioning them to Essentials and removing the dedicated Rock Track allows them flexibility and I guess means they can focus on quality of the albums rather than getting one secured each month.

The more tracks, the more strain on the supply train.

Working on additional member benefits for long term members. "VIP" Set of inventory being an option.

Swap track to allow members to pick up records for the track price without being subbed to the track per say. Some members see the swaps as mini sales and this would allow for that to continue.

More electronic albums and "true" exclusives of jazz records will be possible with the tracks dropping to 3.

Labels tend to want to have their albums in the Essentials (higher numbers) but not the sub-track to it (i.e. Elton John in the Rock track).

Some country records might get dropped as a Swap first exclusive. There are some from the Rounder (?) series which might get dropped as per this idea early next year.

The new Zine has a lot of detail thrown in there. They are aiming to match the quality of the A24 booklets and the size will be "substantial on your shelf".

Classics are always going to be AAA on black vinyl.

Elton John has been a VMP member since 2015 (😲)

Supposedly "Classics" was too open of a term to use for the track and VMP found it difficult to explain what should and shouldn't be put in this track. VMP is going to discuss more internally and might update the name from Jazz, Blues, Funk & Soul.

Finally for this part, I cannot get over how difficult it is to listen to Storf on this episode. I'm sure has a nice guy but every sentenced seemed to be a way for him to brag.
Agree with all the above

Also. I’ve not listened to the general pod but I actually found him really engaging and likable on the Miles (or was it cadet) and Vanguard pods I listened to. Like a massively excitable kid totally unable to hold in the fact they were actually getting to discuss this stuff. Possibly helped that he mainly focused on the subject and not his own relationship to the subject. I remember thinking that if he could translate that kinda innocent excitement to his writing I’d enjoy it much more than his current style (which I’m not quite as fond of)

The page says this version will be a gatefold, and the mock up seems to show the "original" cover art with some color between the letters in the lower right. I can't justify this purchase, especially as a non-member currently, but I am very curious what will be inside the gatefold (if these details are even accurate in the first place).

You can sign up, buy this, and then cancel your membership. Not saving that much though.

I bought it because I have the other three VMP versions and convinced myself it would be nice to have it. I have the standard version already but I’m no stranger to making foolish purchases so I went for it.
