Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

View attachment 17870

I would probably buy this if I wasn't going to her album release show Friday at Grimey's.

@wynn72 @KenKaniff

Caught this on Reddit but I have pre-ordered from Oh Boy. I'm pumped for the Kelsey/John collaboration (and signed) 7".

I haven't been following anything VMP related for a bit. However, someone in JQBX mentioned that there will possibly be an Erykah Badu exclusive. Anyone have any info/speculation/whatevs on this?

Thanks!
The Erykah Badu exclusive will be part of the VMP Motown Anthology. The exclusive will be either a 2xLP of Worldwide Underground or a 2xLP of New Amerykah Part One !

Not VMP related but FWIW there is also an Oh Boy exclusive that includes a bonus 7” duet with John Prine and signed by both of them.

Can’t seem to link directly to the vinyl but black LP plus signed 7”er is $28 plus shipping ($36 total US)

Edit: OTOH the white vinyl looks really nice with this LP.

Nice. As a general rule I have started to hate 7" then again I am to lazy to flip the record.

What’s your cut off period for Morrissey?

I mean the last two/three definitely get no spins but in retrospect there are problems from the start (Bengali in Platforms/Asian Rut). To be honest I find myself reaching for his solo stuff less and less across the board and when I do it’s often just Bona Drag for that run of early singles or You Are The Quarry and Ringleader of the Tormentors for that great comeback.

Why are listening to his solo stuff less and less? Do you think some of his albums have not aged well?

In the future I’m going to have to check out some of Morrissey’s early solo material. But for now, I still cannot get enough of The Smiths. Their four studio albums are incredible! I love The Smiths so much! Their albums still sound very fresh and you can hear their influence/impact in a lot of indie artists’ music today! Even someone like Stella Donnelly, I get The Smiths influence, especially her lyrics!

You know as he’s got older he’s got more and more curmudgeonly and is actually now endorsing a far right political party?

His music probably is getting worse as he’s getting older too! I haven’t seen any recent Morrissey albums getting critical acclaim or ending up in any end-of-year lists! His last two studio albums got mostly mediocre reviews.

I can imagine Morrissey’s music nowadays sounding outdated. Morrissey’s latest input is not relevant or anything exciting in today’s music world.

As for him endorsing a far right-winged party, that’s OK. I’m left-winged but I respect people if they are ‘far’ right-winged. Many friendly and respectful far right-winged people. It’s just that Morrissey happens to be a far-right winged who is a flog and a pig and a racist

I don’t. I actively disrespect people who are far right wing especially, but not exclusively, when they peddle racist stereotypes to further their own agenda. You’d have thought that as the son of two immigrants that he’d maybe have a different worldview, but alas not. BTW please point me to these friendly and respectful racists, I’ve yet to meet any...

mmmmmm I know what you mean now. I think to be far-right winged means generally that you are against immigration and probably inhibit some kind of racist mentality.

I definitely don’t like Morrissey’s mentality, but I do really like his music when he was The Smiths. So I’ll listen to it and buy it on vinyl.

Yeah I mean I’m never going to stop loving The Smiths, it doesn’t feel like it has that attitude or atmosphere and I love Johnny Marr’s music every bit as much as Morrissey’s lyrics and voice.
