Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Someone dared to complain on reddit about the sound quality of Mariah Carey

Will VMP attempt to close reddit now too?

Haha yeah, the topic sounds exactly like what cropped up on the forum, with the same weird responses from them as well. They have to just be in denial at this point that GZ does a mediocre job of mastering especially when you send them something mastered for a CD in the 90s. And their ability to create quiet vinyl is highly variable too, as they’ve found out many times. Of course you might not hear such things if you’re listening on a mono speaker...

IMO anyone who said those anotholgy prices were ridiculous should redirect their attention here. Feel bad for those who paid the full $35 on this, and I’m sort of glad I skipped at $23.

What killed me is when Storf said making a good remaster would have pushed the price point up to $60

Yeah that sounds crazy but I don't understand the exact logistics in terms of licensing for this. And may be a contributing reason that it hasnt been repressed until now.

May also be why we don't see many major label pop albums pressed other than by UO (who also isnt known for amazing packaging).

Light mode hurts my eyes. I don't know how it's easier to read :/

Books have been printed in black text on a light background, rather than light text on a dark background, for hundreds of years for a reason, it’s much clearer for reading. The issue you have is more the fact that a light background emits more blue light, thus straining your eyes, rather than clarity of text. That’s why I tend to use blue light filters.

When VMP sent out the survey after the 1st Anthology I recommended that they go buy a copy of the Dylan, Bowie and any Numero Group boxset to see how to do it properly.

Yeah I look at my 4 Bowie box sets with loads more vinyl a hardback book and a nicer box and see that it’s less than the most recent box, and equivalent in price to the first, I really do wonder why anyone is touching that Anthology shit!

They keep acting like “good master” = AAA cut. I would doubt Daydream was finished in the analog domain, so not even a factor here. I think it really just needs some attention from a proper engineer that would cut a lacquer. GZ has admitted they do very little to the files they are given to optimize sonically for vinyl, meaning no taming of hot sibilants outside of their tolerances for tracking, no EQ etc. I get how this would raise costs by a few hundred dollars over the run, but it seems they spend money on a lot of low value added stuff like adding foil stamping to everything that could be spent on the core product. I just wish they would stop acting like using GZ is anything but a cost cutting measure, like when they claimed their best sounding RHH records were cut at GZ.
