Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand my experiment is over.

I was expecting a gigantic box for November, with not a lot of time to listen, so last week I asked them to delay shipping on some previously ordered items. [For the record, it was the Fania bundle, which appears to be going nowhere and, even if it did, there are black variants for lesser prices.]

Now, with SIX albums I WAS expecting on delay until December (Stones, Floating Points, Coltrane, Vagabon, and the TLC Bundle) I have undone the delay shipping so I get them in November.

In hindsight, I should've figured they'd screw something up and there would be delays on other things... but now I will have enough time to listen to the LP's I AM getting in November, soooooo, I win?

"We obviously need to ship more often, but figuring out how to do so without us losing huge money is the thing we're figuring out."

It sounds like the pre-sale experiment failed and isn't able to scale. I do understand taking orders before the shipment is in the warehouse, but listing things before they even had test pressing seems like they were asking to fail. We had a similar problem when I was working for one of the big audio companies. We had some foldable studio headphones that were delayed for over a year. The thing we did differently was we never officially announced it or took any orders until we confirmed the boat landed in the US ready to fulfill dealer orders. The mistake we made was sending early demo units to select reviewers without embargo dates. It was only a few, but we had people regularly asking about them for the whole year while production worked through delays.

Once again, showing how young and financially focused (customer last) the company (VMP) has become. So glad I didn't order the Rolling Stones based on these regular delays. Picked up the vinyl and CD at my local shop today.

I dip in and out in recent months. But I still really like the product. And with streaming I am never in a hurry to get a record the day or week or even month it drops. I just want a nice sounding/looking record and the customer service has never really been an issue for me with VMP. I would rather email CS at VMP than do the whole mail it back crap through amazon or go back to my local for a replacement copy.

Yeah! The VMP album art is completely different. For the VMP cover, the same art-work as the original album cover, but has that silver border around it!
I thought so! Seems odd they aren’t touting it as a selling point. I’m a bit torn. I much prefer the VMP album art but I like the gold marbled vinyl better. After shipping the price is essentially the same so that isn’t a factor for once. Decisions! What a great album. I like it more with every listen.

Yeah, I absolutely love this album too even more with each listen! It’s one of my favourite releases this year!

For me, I’m obviously going with VMP because of international shipping fees, but I also like the standard mock-up! Not sure if I prefer it more to VMP’s though! I think together, I prefer VMP’s album art with the colour variant, but I also like the gold marbled with the original album art. Both are great! ☺️

Same boat! I just got my VMP order in. May as well have one on lock in case it sells out quickly. This is one of those that should sell quick but will probably hang out forever a la Jackie Cohen haha.

I'm enjoying Pang quite a bit, but I'm still sad Chairlift broke up :( Their second album, Something, is a masterpiece imo (Moth and Does You Inspire You are great too). The songcraft of that duo was incredible, and I'm not hearing the same quality on Pang (sorry). See Amanaemonesia, I Belong in Your Arms, or Sidewalk Safari for reference.

Definitely get out and see Caroline perform if you get a chance. Her vocal ability is something too behold. I mean, if you go to 2:17 of the track Parachute on Pang when she hits the high note, you think, oh that's some studio shit, but nope, she just crushes these octaves and transitions live, it's absolutely incredible. I saw Chairlift's last two shows ever of their retirement tour, or whatever they called it, in Philly, and then NYC, and it was pure magic. Those are some memories I'll cherish. I'm sure Caroline's solo stuff will keep growing on me, but when I need my fix it's Chairlift's album Something every single time.

I will be sure to take a deeper dive into these suggestions! I’ve always been kind of a passive Chairlift fan but for whatever reason nothing has ever clicked quite as easily and quickly as Pang did.

This. They are acting like a little company using kickstarter to fund everything. And then delay after delay. I have done pre-orders with small labels or artists directly that had issues like this, but I expected it. VMP is longer a little or young company.

I hope you enjoy. Your tastes might just be more in line with her solo stuff.

I'm super biased (well, I already claimed Something is a masterpiece!). Something was also the first – and one of the only – records I've paid above face value for after I started collecting, since it had one pressing, and has since been out of print. Totally worth it. Also, Chairlift are pretty niche, so it wasn't crazy expensive or anything.

Under promise, over deliver. They should list preorders for a later date than they expect that way if they can fulfil it earlier it will be a pleasant surprise (like FKA Twigs) as opposed to a constantly delayed shit show (like TLC). You’ll never be able to get everything completely right always but it could reduce some disappointment

Soo I just received my copy of Yusef Lateef - Eastern Sounds. Sound quality is great, but side A is pretty noisy in spots. Anyone else experience something similar?
