Shlohmo, John Coltrane, Spoon & Ella Fitzgerald have also all been pushed back to December too!

Looks like I’ll be receiving a huge VMP box in December! And it will be monsterous if VMP have a good Black Friday sale!

Really keen to know what kind of sale VMP will have this Black Friday!

Even if it’s great will there be much in it you haven’t already bought off them?

Now that they only sell their own stuff it’s hardly going to have an enormous amount of choice...

I heard the Black Friday sale got bumped back to New Year’s Day 😆

What have the sales been like in the past? I'm guessing it will be swap prices ($23-25) for some of their backlog. ( which I'm actually ok with, a few things I want to buy, but wont pay 34-40 when I can swap for 23 )

Yeah, there’s a few store exclusives I’m pretty keen to get, but I don’t want to spend too much on them. Velvet Negroni, Angel Olsen, Floating Points, Fania All Stars live, Christone Ingram, Charlie Collins, Vince Guaraldi Trio & Vagabon !!!!!

Those are the eight VMP exclusives I haven’t purchased because I’m not as keen to buy them full price! But if they were reduced, I’d probably buy them! I definitely like all eight albums! Just would rather put the money into other stuff! ☺️

I really enjoyed the Vince Guaraldi Trio album, but $34 is too much for me! It’s not an album I know and love, like Mariah Carey’s “Fantasy” (although I know the Vince Guaraldi Trio VMP pressing will sound much better than the Mariah Carey VMP pressing).

At their current prices i won’t ever outright buy an exclusive again, I’ll happily take the standard instead. Of these i got Charlie Collins because it was $24 as they initially released it before their gouge fest and Angel Olsen because it was a swap so $23.

I am in love with the song “So Hot You’re Hurting My Feelings” !!! It’s such a warm, nostalgic, spacious, jittery, smooth banger which has a really exotic, foresty groove! And her vocals on that track sound like Nulifer Yanya’s - elegant, posh and a tiny bit stiff! ♥️

Cannot wait to grab this record! The pressing details seem great too! (180g, Bernie Grundman)!

Yeah! I’ve also purchased the standard at times (eg. - Brittany Howard). But it’s never cheaper for me, VMP is usually the same price or cheaper! If I was a Secretly Society member, then Angel Olsen and other artists’ records sold on that site, it would be a bit cheaper! But I don’t like their range enough to be subscribed all the time!

So VMP for me is the most affordable! And I do like their colour variants and customer service.

Putting VMP to one side.
do you ever go into record stores rather than just looking at other online stores? The list price might be higher but by the time you minus shipping they’re nearly always cheaper.

Of course I go into record stores! Problem is, most of those albums are around $35-$50 and it’s usually just the black/standard variant. If it’s a 2LP, like Angel Olsen’s All Mirrors, then it’ll definitely be $45+

It usually is just more expensive though unfortunately. E.g. - Sampa The Great’s The Return is AUS$49 everywhere. But after you convert into AUS dollars, it’s just under $40 if you buy it from VMP! (I don’t pay tax, and because I’m a member, shipping is free).

fair enough. I’ve gone completely the other way. I buy pretty much everything in store. The list is usually a bit more expensive than online stores (that aren’t VMP and their crazy prices) but no shipping equals it out.

It also helps that, on top of all the other things, VMP mostly presses things I’ve no interest in these days. I’m actually beginning to think that they never did to be honest and that I bought a lot of stuff I didn’t want through their FOMO culture. So glad to be over that!

And that’s why I rarely buy from record stores and only online nowadays! I hate that I do it, because I want to support all the independent record stores in Melbourne, but I just find more affordable options.

There is one record store though, that stocks Speakers Corners, MOFI and all those other great reissue pressings, and the prices are fair. So I’ve purchased jazz and soul records there from time to time. But in terms of new release albums, I’ve pretty much never purchased from a record store in person (only RSD) 😢
