Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

The amount of business 'insight' on this thread is overwhelming. Does anyone actually own a business here?

In other news: I got two shipping notices, one for Aretha one for Fiona. Neither has started the journey but the labels have been created.
I've also gotten a reply from CS about a problem with my November record. I swapped for Jackie Shane. It's a two album deal with one studio recording and one live. The record was sealed but only the live record was there. VMP is sold out so they credited 25 to my account. Did anyone else by that record? Did anyone else have the same problem?
I've also emailed Numero Group to see if they have an extra disc 1 they can sell me.
I’ve been a member since 2014 and this might be the latest in the month I’ve gone without getting a shipping notification. Shits fucked.

I've worked in various aspects of corporate finance, through numerous industries, over the course of a decade plus. Everything from small manufacturing/operational finance to large corporate M&A work.

Some of takes I'm posting are guesswork, but the assumptions are all reasonable and informed. I haven't ever owned my own business, but you don't need to have been a President/CEO of a company to spot financial warning signs in others.

How weird would it be if the real reason they shut down the old forum was that they just couldn’t afford the expense if it wasn’t generating revenue, and the real reason they were willing to take all that abuse is because the truth was even worse? Just supposing, just for a second, that that’s what happened, they would actually have done us a favor in the long run by cutting us off when they did.

I mean, if things were that bad that they couldn't afford hosting the forum anymore, they likely wouldn't have survived this long.

I think it's more likely that they didn't want to play host to a repository for negative feedback for their product/service.

A lot of us here are in corporate finance, several of us have/are in the music industry, and lots have been collecting records so long to have seen several labels, stores and sites go under from bad practice. Unfortunately, a lot of the same flags start popping up when something is going under. But we are coming at this from an angle that we really want VMP to succeed and stick around- we just want them to get it together and be on the level with their customers. We wouldn't be so mad over a business we hate.

Nvm.

It absolutely is my department...

This, in my opinion, is one VMPs biggest downfalls, going back to the old forum I don't think they ever really looked at the wealth of knowledge from so many angles that was offered up CONSTANTLY. And yet they stuck to the "growing pains" war cry while things got progressively worse. I know there are forum members from the old site and N&G who have a flat out hate for VMP, but I also know that the majority have always wanted them to be the better company, but all the talk, discussion, suggestions and help that we were at times asked for, just fell on deaf ears.

They have a concept that is worth billions and are too arrogant to listen to the masses, their customers. The customer is NOT always right, but the customer is NOT stupid. They unfortunately seemed to have fallen for their own bullshit, that all the customer needs is a little shinny carrot dangling in front of them and the rest is money in the bank...............that shinny carrot is loosing it's luster more and more each day. Live by the FOMO, die by the FOMO.

FIFY - i think they knew that they'd be receiving more negative than positive feedback going forward with their plans for the business

The customer is NOT always right, but the customer is NOT stupid. They unfortunately seemed to have fallen for their own bullshit, that all the cus

Just a quick note here: "The customer is always right" is often misconstrued, mostly by Americans. It doesn't mean that a customer can get whatever they want, it was meant as an example that the customer's dollar will tell you whether or not your marketing is effective. Oh you think your campaign is top notch? Sales are down this quarter, it sucks- the customer is always right.

I feel an irrational need to talk about this whenever someone says it

Banks require a Business Plan. Are you familiar with Vinyl Me, Please?
It also helps if you have something that can be leveraged on the off chance you can’t make a payment. VMP’s business model doesn’t give them a lot of assets that they can put against the loan.
To be clear, a business plan is very much needed but it helps to have assets.

Also, in terms of business insight on here, no need to gatekeep business knowledge. It’s clear that people here come from a variety of backgrounds including various business education and experience whether as customers or as part of a company. In my case, I have my MBA and am a senior manager. A strong recommendation, listen to people instead of judging them @Ajax, you might surprise yourself with what you learn.
