Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I'm just curious - how long have you been a member? And @NathanRicaud , how long have you been a member?

I know I have a very low tolerance for companies taking my money and treating me like poo. Very very very low. I can ALWAYS find another place to spend my hard earned money. It took them about 2.5-3 years to make me swear them off forever. So, curious about some others' journey.

I have been a member since B.I.G. (so about 2 1/2 years) and have been subscribed to all 3 tracks the entire time. And buy a ridiculous amount of exclusives from them. So I have put up with a large amount of problems with them and am back and forth with Paul almost monthly about either oversells, damaged record, delayed shipments, etc.

BUT at the end of the day, I love what I receive and I love my record collection that has a good percentage of records I bought from them. And I have been introduced to alot of new music/genres that I love since being member (though granted this community I've been introduced to is a big part of that).

I also lean more on the side of incompetence rather than maliciousness or greed causing all the problems so I still hold out hope they eventually get it together and don't hold it against them personally as much as some. I dont personally dislike anyone that works there (and roll my eyes every time I still see a "more time" joke). Not making excuses for them, they have to get this shit together and this month was really unacceptable. But I also am not going to quit when I overall really enjoy their product and curation.

This is why I’m leaving Urban Outfitters. I’ve been underwhelmed overall by their products (everything is defected and some exclusives sound average) and even moreso by their customer service. The Destiny’s Child Writing’s On The Wall exclusive did sound great though. Britney Spears exclusives sound OK, nothing special - pretty much all of them were defected unfortunately. The final cutting point was when I received Billie Eilish’s EP, which was already was opened, with no inner sleeve and heavily scratched. Urban Outfitters sending me a returned faulty product was a definite “never again” moment for me 🙅‍♂️

Damn, sorry to hear that. I have very little problems with UO but I have noticed that they send their stuff from different locations depending on stock so some are better than others with packing, etc. I live in New York so I'm very lucky since my records are very well packaged and I have only received a couple damaged in my entire time buying from them (and thats always minor sleeve issues). And I have a UO right next to my barber that is super easy to return those items. I dont blame you at all for quitting after all that though.

Yeah, if I lived in the U.S., it would be a different story with returns! I don’t care for their exclusives much in general though. It was mainly just the Britney Spears’ exclusives (In The Zone, Britney, Blackout, Circus, Oops!...I did It Again), Destiny’s Child’s Writing’s On The Wall, Vince Staples’ FM & Daniel Caesar’s Freudian. Anderson Paak’s Ventura and Oxnard were nice grabs too! They are the only exclusives I cared for. 90% of their exclusives don’t interest me. So I’m happy to cut them. They’re not a bad company with vinyl, but I just realise that it isn’t for me. Happy with all the Britney I got though! Most were professionally unwarped and they are all swirl colour variants, no clear colour variants ❤️❤️🙌

But yeah, Urban Outfitters is just meh in general. I’m so glad I pre-ordered Poppy’s I Disagree from her store, because the colour variant sold through her site is much better looking than the UO exclusive! As was the case with her ‘Am I A Girl?’ Exclusive. Her store Grey marbled colour variant looks much better than the red UO exclusive.

One UO exclusive I wish I got though, is Rihanna’s ANTI! The UO edition is deluxe and is on white vinyl! Totally badass! And it’s a great album! 👌

I was similar. Bought so many "exclusives" and other stuff from the store. Pauly was always great. And I was introduced to a lot of music by them. But then I realized, I was being introduced to more music by the community.

Yeah, maybe not maliciousness. But at what point does it being "this month" month after month become more than mere incompetence and just plain old negligence? Because it hasn't just been this month. It has been a constant since the beginning - just differing degrees of impact or visibility.

Honestly, they won't get their act together with their current C suite/management team. They just won't. The problem starts there and until it is addressed, nothing will change. I do hope that investors see that. I do hope that their hand is forced and sweeping changes are implemented. Because this company could be magical. Which is why we've all stuck with it longer than any of us should have. We see the potential.

I basically feel the same way. I haven’t commented in this thread much because I feel like most people with positive feelings about VMP get piled on. Besides a late delivery this month I don’t feel like I have ever had a major problem with them. Sure a warped record here and there, but that is going to happen anywhere these days.

I think the forum closing was a blessing in disguise and yeah their management may not be the most competent but for the most part I’ve gotten what I paid for and discovered some really great artists through their curation. I’m not entirely sure why packages arriving a week or two late one month out of the year seems to make people so upset. I don’t have any emotional connection to the company though, they just happen to make a luxury product that I enjoy.

Lulu isn't meant to be a mainstream rock record. St. Anger was.
It was released by the same group so I feel like it deserves to be looked at on the same level as the rest of their discography.

I am an apologist for St Anger. To me, its on the same level as their output at that time. St Anger, Invisible Kid and The Unnamed Feeling were good songs. The thing I do hate about the album is that snare sound. Jesus christ that thing haunts me sometimes. When I got my drum set I changed my snare head to the same one as Lars used on this album and boy did i regret it. Also that movie that came out at that time.....uggh.

Agreed on almost all points. I have told Paul at this point the "we're sorry and want to get better" is meaningless. I have had much more luck with albums being packed properly to prevent damages this year (knock on wood), but that's about it. Everything else has gotten worse.

But like you, I do see the potential, and I love what they want to do. So I'm sticking with them, even through the *way too long* growing pains and frustration.

Thank you for the reasoned responses and @NathanRicaud and @Satchmo2go too! It is for you good folks that I hope they get their darn act together.

Yeah that’s something I can 100% get behind, I’ve always bought more in store than online. If you don’t you can’t expect them to still be there. Looking forward to getting the train into Nottingham later in the week and seeing how many of my old haunts are still around!
Just catching up on posts. My mate still lives in Nottingham and sent me this Christmas video from Robs Records. That place is both horrifying and a potential gold mine.
