Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

That is essentially the response I got with a bit more details on why

Paul from VMP here!

Needed to reach out to inform you about a swap error that occurred with your account last night, and to provide a little technical background into how it happened.

When we announced yesterday, you placed a swap for the Desert Sessions title. Unfortunately, we will not be able to fulfill that swap for you, due to this error. I will quote exactly what the team told me once the issue was raised:

"The attached customers who swapped yesterday were erroneously shown a confirmation page. This is due to a race condition error that was exacerbated by a 25x spike in traffic at the same time. Due to a time out on the server an error message should have displayed. Unfortunately, it did not and although we were already "oversold" on these, customers saw a confirmation page instead. Overnight we resolved the bug that caused this so that an error message will be displayed by default instead. Our apologies from the tech team for those who had a false positive."

So your swap didn't actually go through, and you are slated to receive the default title for April. Feel free to place another swap at this time, if you would like to do so.

I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience that this might have caused.

And I have ceased feeling bad for any of them.

Money says I get this email after swaps close.

I got a response from Pauly. From what he's telling me, they have the swaps accurate on their end, but it's simply showing up wrong on the membership page.

Let's hope that's the case for everyone
I got a response from Paul, saying technical glitch x25 and so on, you should not have received a confirmation.....basically you got hosed. I’ve quit before, but I think this time I’m done for good. The user experience is just junk these days, no fault of Pauly who is always pleasant. Just tired of this.

That's on the Desert Sessions, so I think Woodstock is clear. For Pang and others, I guess we'll see.

They act like this is a new issue. It's not. They've been doing this shit forever and how are they determining who gets their copies? Buckets?

What if you were deciding between Desert Sessions and something else and that something else is sold out now? This email offers no other sort of compensation. You just get fucked.

Now Pauly is blaming Covid-19

So this is why your system told people they were receiving an album they weren't?

AGAIN

I was tempted to rejoin when I heard about some of the swaptions this month. But then I see this kid of thing happening again and I remember why it is that I choose to take my business elsewhere.

Also: cost. I’ve been able to find older pressings of various Classics records for a fraction of the monthly membership price. I’ll probably be able to do the same with next month’s Stevie Nicks pick as soon as record stores are open for business again.

INB4 "but it has never sounded so good!" Despite the originals being AAA and having spared no cost for production and engineering bc it was Stevie fucking Nicks

I made a mistake going on reddit. Looks like it's reverted back to nothing but "why don't you unsubscribe instead of trolling!" fanboys, because I said this wasn't a new problem and they need to fix the oversell issue.

Yep. Reddit has tons of people who think that just because they got the swap that there’s nothing wrong with VMP. Saw it last month too...people not thinking anything was wrong until they never received Bandana and had to contact CS to find out about it. Even then they were fine with $40 credit. But it’s all bullshit...they offer you $40 in credit because they are still making money off the original money you spent on a product they didn’t have in stock. This is a recurring issue.

They aren't offering credit this time at all. They just told people to pick something else from the leftovers today.

This time though, nothing has shipped. So I think not giving credits when swaps are still open is ok.

I get that part, but I still feel as if they need to offer people something else. If you wanted Desert Sessions, so you didn't swap for something else, like the Woodstock box or Fiona album, and those are now gone, then they've basically pulled a bate and switch on people, expecting them to pick through leftovers that they don't want, after forcing them to miss out on what they did. They're being penalized for acting quickly and trusting the company to deliver. Saying, "Oops. Deal with it." again isn't going to help. It's not enough.

Completely agree.

Ugh. The Caroline Polachek record took months to finally click with me and now I‘d really love to have the VMP-exclusive version which was available for quite some time, but not anymore. I figured it might be a Swap exclusive, but I didn‘t want to sign up and then be disappointed if it‘s not. Probably gonna sign up for next month as I really like the Stevie Nicks record and this VMP variant looks and hopefully sounds great. So maybe I‘ll get another shot then and swap for Stevie later on.

I think I’m gonna swap The Stooges and Rick Ross. Which is insane to me because I love and adore both records. More strategy than anything. Essentials tend to hang around awhile and it seems like the reaction to Teflon Don is mixed so I think that’ll hang at least for a couple months. Otis is a must have that we probably won’t see again (maybbbbbe a splatter here and there). I think I can find a spot to grab both over the next 2-3 months.

but there are 2 exclusives I’m trying to manually swap for that are must owns for me.
