Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

That’s what Storf indicated on Reddit yesterday, though the release is exclusive to VMP it’s not limited in numbers and is immediately available to the general public.
A clear power play to be a bigger entity in the industry.

1. They fuck up way to much to please a big audience
2. Hey what a great time to piss of your most hardcore customers.

Honestly a bigger audience might suit them better because I actually disagree with 1. They can’t satisfy audiophiles with nice presses and anthologies and fancy pressings will always be an unmitigated disaster. Pressing thousands of pretty copies of popular fluff in a fancy colour they can get away with because of the amount that either won’t be played or will be played on poor equipment...

Yeah but when their distributor loses the entire run, or it actually ends up being a red variant or it’s actually Seal’s fifth album on 8-track.

While @Lee Newman makes some very funny points, and that might end up accurate in the long run, I think Joe is right. VMP is more suited to an audience that collect "things" rather than "records". No disrespect to most of modern RnB fans, butI think they do not care that much for mastering details and mild warps. Same for most indie rock fans, as well.

Most of them want the object to display, not the record to actually spin on a regular basis, because they will probably stream more than listen ot vinyl.

Just give VMP your money! You probably eat meat and animals are getting tortured for you to eat a burger. You probably have an apple or Samsung product and slavery and kids have been killed to collect batteries for their products. So much evilness that giving your money to VMP is so harmless in comparison!

It’s all about you in the end! As long as you’re not negatively affecting others!
Don't forget all those apes you kill by eating palm oil!

100% this. They are shooting for the big trend market, who doesn't care or notice warps, mastering, pressing etc. Totally think they will do better with this crowd, and pressing up more poppy music is an even better way to get to them.

I think they keep trying for the audiophile market as a sort of way to market towards the extremes/margins to build a dedicated customer base. Plus to put it simply the audiophile crowd has the real $$$. I was just on the forum Hoffman today and saw a thread started by a guy who just got into vinyl three years ago and he already has 1600 records and multi-thousand dollars in gear. How can you not want to bait a customer with an appetite like that over casual buyers who have a collections in the double digits?

Anthology is a bit of a dud, but since moving to QRP, Classics is going well for them, there seem to be quite a few threads on Hoffman, and they just got another Fremer shout-out in a recent article on his site. Personally I don't care for that guy at all, but many in the audiophile crowd hang on his every word. I think they get how to suck these guys in on a small scale, but they want to get a taste of that sweet MoFi One-Step level of cash flow. I think the issue for them in this case is how do they not let the GZ related issues of the main track tarnish the goodwill Classics has, and how do they not let Classics become as much of a fucking bore as MoFi and Analog Productions.

My issue is, they've proven they can deliver the quality at the same price point with Classics, so now it just seems lazy that they don't try to meet the same (I know AAA is less likely to be possible, but still) standard for Essentials or RHH.

What’s more is that I think they truly love the music they offer. If they went the fluff route, I think they’d each die a little inside. There doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of faith in VMP on this forum, but I really doubt they would choose to take their business in this direction. It’s imperfect, but I’m sure they’re really proud of what they started with this club.

I think that's what's so frustrating to me. I'm a relatively recent adopter and I see so much potential there. I complain because of how frustrating the missteps are. If I'd written them off completely I suppose I'd just ignore it because it wouldn't be as frustrating. I should start ignoring it a little at least to not whine on here so much. I definitely didn't want to become a member of this forum just to whine about VMP!
