What's Spinning

Unless I missed it; I'm curious as to what order your collection playthrough is in. Genre, singer/songwriters? Or just pure chaos order.
In order added to Discogs - oldest first. Hence they heavy reliance on garage sale / thrift shop finds at the beginning. Nothing wrong with that, but there is a lot of chaff with the wheat too. That seemed the right way to do it for me, since I'm hitting close to 750 records, hopefully allow me to winnow it down or at least give some love to those that haven't gotten any play.

I worked through a handful of 7" singles earlier.

João Gilberto - Cantando As Músicas Do Film Orfeu Do Carnaval (Odeon, 1959 First Brazilian 7" Pressing)
The Dave Brubeck Quartet - At Pacific College (Vogue Records, 1953 First 7" Pressing)
The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Basin Street (Fontana, 1959 First 7" Pressing)
Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald - Benny & Ella (RCA, 1961 First UK 7" Pressing)

The João Gilberto is a real treat, some amazing music. I really need to listen to move of his releases from this era.

I think doing it by release year might have be a good approach too, maybe next time for me. That would be a good way to appreciate the context of releases against one another and how they might have informed each other.

Oh I like it!
Would include reissues in the original release year, rather than reissue release year?

Ha, I was wondering about the same thing! I think for convenience it would make sense to use the Discogs year, but my preference would be to use the actual release year since I only have a few dupes in the original release / reissue release scenario.

This is very tempting to me. I always enjoy doing historical trajectories and I think this would keep my interest. Going to plan this for the new year.

Collection playthrough #25 (in order added to discogs)

Oh hell yes. And a big RIP to Wes Freed who passed away a few days ago and whose art is closely linked with the DBT - after being diagnosed with Colorectal Cancer 9 months ago.

This also reminds me to do a PSA - when it's time to get your colonoscopy, get it if you can. I had one that detected the beginnings of colon cancer a few years ago and had to have 2/3 of it removed (leaving me with what I affectionately call a semi-colon). All heathy now, but it could have been much worse.

Now, as Patterson Hood says in the liner notes - Please support living artists by buying their beautiful work! and LET THERE BE ROCK!

Sun Ra – Of Abstract Dreams

Cleared my long queue of un-listened Sun Ra before bed last night only to receive another today!

Thanks @MikeH For the Strut sale tip a few weeks back - this was the one thing they had that I didn't. Singles Volume 2 is now the only Strut Sun Ra release I don't have, but I'm hoping to maybe find that one wicked cheap sometime like I did Volume 1 a few months back.

I get pretty ridiculous with my original release years when it comes to my Sun Ra collection. I actually have a Google Doc I use for reference and keep up to date any time I order or pick up something new. For instance, this year's Live at Babylon, despite being the first vinyl release is actually stored away under 2015, which is when the album was originally released on CD. In the rare couple cases that I have multiple copies, I file them together first by original release year and then chronologically by version. My one exception (so far) is having separate release dates for Pictures of Infinity and Outer Spaceways Incorporated, which are essentially the same album but the track order is different in addition to the title.
