John Coltrane - Giant Steps (Atlantic, 1960 US Black Label Mono First Pressing)
One of my favourite Coltrane albums and certainly one of the most important jazz albums of all time. He completely changed the way jazz is approached with this one album!
‘81 CRC repress. Not sure I’ve every heard this on anything other than various car radio/boom boxes. Probably will not put it in my heavy rotation list. Very bright recording. Letting it spin through side 1 while cleaning another record.
Re-reading my post i do make it sound a little worse than it actually is. Also, after listing to a Get On Down release, anything sounds amazing haha
The crackle is minimal and not that loud and the surface noice is also not very loud and only noticeable during run-in. Once the music starts you can't hear it. And the bass might just be how the album is. I've never heard the album before, just American History X, but to me it just sounded like the bass had a slightly extra oomf to it.
