What's Spinning

The agutierrezb 2019 record collection challenge

So I've decided to embark on my own personal challenge, which consists of listening every record in my collection before the end of the year. My record collection is not that big -only ~250-, but I still feel like there are a bunch of records I don't give enough attention to, while still adding more titles to my shelves.

For this reason I've set a couple of rules in order to play every record at least once before December 31st: I'll play at least one record a day, going from front to back in the way I have them sorted in my shelf. I can play a different record (i.e. Not the next one in alphabetical order) if I feel like listening to something else in any given moment, but at least one of the records I spin in the day has to be the LP in turn.

I didn't take pictures for the first two days, but I'll try to document the process from here on, so I'll be posting daily on this thread. Wish me luck!
#126: Freddie Hubbard - Hub-Tones

#127: Freddie Hubbard - First Light

This is probably my favorite Hubbard album: It's got killer solos by the man himself, a funky rhythm section, very memorable melodies, lush arrangements, and the always steady-yet-original drumming of Jack DeJohnette.

Quiet Riot - Quiet Riot II (1979)

I never thought I would have a copy of this. Quiet Riot's second album. Like the first, it was only released in Japan, and has never been reissued on any format. It has the incredible Randy Rhoads on guitar, who left the band and tragically died not long after it's release. This is very hard to get a copy of, let alone an official LP. No OBI or insert, but for the price I paid and the EX condition of the LP, it was well worth it. Very happy to have this! 🤘

Making my way chronologically through the box set, I am now on their final original full length album.

This is the first album of theirs that I ever purchased, got it on compact disc in 1998. It’s a weird album to say that it was my introduction to them, because it doesn’t really fit in with the rest of their discography… Some of the songs are epic in length, slower tempo‘s and cleaner instrument recording… But after seeing the video on a sub pop compilation for “Pine Box Derby,“ I had to half this album.

I am not holding my breath that they will ever make another album again… But I would be just so happy if it were possible.

I really hope they release single albums from this comp. I like them all to a certain degree, but I love this one.
