What's Spinning

I really hope they release single albums from this comp. I like them all to a certain degree, but I love this one.

I'd be shocked if they didn't, my understanding is Calvin owes a number of people a fair amount of money.
Not gonna lie, I started to tear up near the end of "Bury The Hammer." I've bought their albums on a number of different formats, including the first CD box set (autographed by the band!) and I really, really miss this group. Two guitars, two singers, one set of drums, and that much evolution of their sound over 10 years? Truly inspiring.

Lee Morgan - The Sidewinder (Blue Note, 1964 First Stereo Pressing)

One of the most recognisable jazz songs? Perhaps. They pressed just over 4000 copies for its initial release and they ended up selling-out in just 2 days. The Sidewinder went on to be one of Blue Notes biggest sellers and even made the Billboard charts (which was unheard of for a jazz album).

It is bittersweet that I have made it to the final LP of the boxset, a singles compilation.

It hurts my heart to think that a band over the course of 10 years with two guitars, a set of drums, and two vocalists were able to alter their sound and aesthetic as much as they did… And will probably never make an album again.

But I am just so grateful that their music ever existed in the first place. I know my life is a much better place with these records in it.
