Neil Young - Silver & Gold
Perfect for a snowy Sunday morning drinking coffee with a dog on my lap (special guest appearance by some wrapping paper I forgot to move to storage )
It's a vinyl filled morning today, RCM is fired up cleaning albums, Vinyl Flat is cooking a few albums and we're taking a little break from the Collection Play through to enjoy some of the Holiday loot that's been ignored
The Ray Draper Quintet Featuring John Coltrane (New Jazz, 1958 First Mono Pressing)
This is a biggie and a FANTASTIC record. A 17-year-old Draper recording his second album as lead which features John Coltrane on sax (he was already a successful musician at this point). He unfortunately only recorded a few more records in his lifetime and was shot and killed at 42 years of age. A gang held him at gunpoint after leaving a bank and the 13-year-old gang leader (you read that right....13) fatally shot him.
Jazz Sunday continues. This was one of my least favourites in the Blue Note Anthology. It's a bit too 'Green Onions' but there are some really lovely moments in it and the album does have a nice groove to it.
