Wilco (The Thread)

Still waiting on all the details, but a bit more intrigue here...

From a 2004 interview with Jeff:
“Several of the songs on A Ghost Is Born are the result of a process the band calls “fundamentals”: Tweedy played an acoustic guitar and sang random lyrics while the others listened in another room; the rest of the band then performed along with Tweedy while he remained in isolation (they could hear him, but he couldn’t hear them). These half-hour sessions were burned onto CDs; Tweedy would later listen to the discs at home and try to turn fragments into individual songs.”

The 20th anniversary AGIB deluxe includes: “4CDs: Complete fundamentals on 4CDs”.

No way I will purchase this (just like I won’t purchase any other of these monster box sets) as there is just too much. Material that I won’t regularly listen to taking up space.

I am looking forward to downloading the digital files though. It will be fun occasionally to explore the alternate takes.
Would love for the live show to be released separately at some point as I am always in for some live Wilco on wax especially from this era.

Yeah, was hoping that they might fold in Kicking Television, but guess we may have to wait for a 20 year anniversary re-press later in 2025.

AGIB is my favorite Wilco, so I will inevitably add it to the collection at some point. The hardcover book is a nice bonus. I was able to wait it out and pick up the 7xLP Yankee Hotel Foxtrot on red gold for $61. Not sure if I will be quite as patient this time around. If Target has it in the upcoming B2B1 sale, I may just take the plunge now.

Here is the full set on robin egg blue vinyl:

Right on. The price isn’t my issue. It’s just too much physical media. I love these Wilco albums but I am not pulling a 7xLP box set off my shelf to listen to YHF or Ghost Is Born it would really hinder the amount of times I reach for those albums unless I were to ditch the box and put them on the shelf individually and if I am doing that, it kills much of the appeal of these sets especially since the original vinyl reissues sound fantastic so it’s not really an upgrade on the actual LP. I would enjoy the book and the live set. If they had a smaller set that only included those parts I would probably bite but there is too much superfluous to get me too excited.

Totally get it. In general, I'm not a box set guy for this exact reason, but YHF and AGIB are two exceptions to the rule.
