The inclusion of an early edition of Impossible Germany [Improbable Germany (10/7/03 SOMA-Chicago)] makes this a hard pass for me.

Same. I'm in the unfortunate position of having ALL of them on the D2C color variants as well. YHF and Ghost are the ones I've really been waiting for. Gonna wait and see if by some miracle a BF coupon works, but I am no doubt in for this one. Sighhhh
 
TL;'DR : Do I really *need* the GIB 9 Disc Deluxe Set?

I didn't pre-order the GIB Deluxe.
Streaming has the Remaster and the 1st 19 "Outtakes and Alternatives".

I'd be interested to know:
  • If I'm missing out by not having access to 20-38
  • Whether the quality of the Wang Show recording is any good
  • WTF the "Fundamentals" tracks are.

i'm waiting for it to be on massive sale like just about all the others have been. Saw it was at Target so may grab it there if they do a B2G1 sale soon...or wait for even further discount.
 
Ya, so the "fundamentals" are CD only, which I'm hoping are just a big wild textural journey with O'Rourke. I don't really do live shows on vinyl, and my OG KPG cut is one of the best sounding records I own, so I'm not sure I'm going for the LPs on this one after all.

Hoping in a few months they'll make the whole enchilada streaming, cause gosh was that bonus disc just an absolute joy of a listen this morning.

Who knows, maybe this is what pushes me over the edge to get a CD transport again....

From a 2004 interview with Jeff:

“Several of the songs on A Ghost Is Born are the result of a process the band calls “fundamentals”: Tweedy played an acoustic guitar and sang random lyrics while the others listened in another room; the rest of the band then performed along with Tweedy while he remained in isolation (they could hear him, but he couldn’t hear them). These half-hour sessions were burned onto CDs; Tweedy would later listen to the discs at home and try to turn fragments into individual songs.”

Yeah - I personally don't need this.
Now I know why I didn't pony up for the Box Set.

IF I can get it on one of those Wilco Store discount deals I may rethink this strategy.

I think one of the expanded YHF boxes went as low as $39 at one point (wasn't the biggest but the 2nd biggest vinyl box). Don't know that this will get that low, but if it dips to around $100 I will probably get it.

If the audio quality of the Wang Theater Set is any good - I'll probably do the same.
Its a great set list spanning Summerteeth>YHF>GIB.

I appreciate the extras from these set but A) outside the studio album and live records I wouldn’t listen to much of bonus material albums at all beyond a cursory listen and B) while a fat box set looks nice on a shelf, it takes up a lot of real estate and will deter me from playing those albums because of the extra effort to unbox each album any time I want to listen. Lastly, The I already own excellent pressings of these albums and I don’t think these set actually improve upon those pressings.

It’s not even the price, when the YHF box was going for cheap I held off.
