To further explain the above scoring,

Restricting the list to the collective top49, with everything in the top49 having over 20 pts each, except for #49 having been awarded 20pts by three different users. I find this to be more valuable as this requires at least two users to distribute points as opposed to a 20pt entry possibly being awarded by a single user. In cases of tied pts for any release, I prioritize the number of users voting as a tiebreaker (e.g., a release with 50pts awarded between ten users will rank higher than a release with 50pts awarded between four users).

I'll post a "N&G Best of 2024" Spotify playlist soon. I need to get some sleep though and make mochi (餅; sweet glutinous rice cakes) for New Year's treats for work + for my father and I sometime after waking up, so that'll have to wait at least 24hrs. I also need to work in < 6hrs from now.

Thank you again everyone for participating in this year's edition of the MEGALIST.

Fun fact! Kendrick is now the first artist to win our forum AOTY twice (first in 2017 and now 2024)

Nice! Thanks for working this @Rip_City

Glad to see a Dublin band up there in that top 3, I really think Romance was a step towards the big leagues for the Fontaines lads. Favourite is probably my, ahem, favourite tune of the year.

Also glad to see my favourite album of the year up in 16th and that other people enjoyed it as well.

Well you learn a little something every day.
I saw Bill Ryder-Jones support Beth Gibbons earlier in the year, and the name popped out here, so I googled him, I actually did a quick Spotify look at the time.
Turns out he is also of The Coral who I always thought were far better than their young years when they first came out with a bang. Just never put 2+2 together. So if The Coral passed u by and you like indie pop folk rock - they did it very well at the start, no idea how they developed passed first two albums tbh.

They sort of faded from the mainstream and made a lot of pleasant indie folk pop for a while and then all of a sudden in 2021 returned with an utterly fantastic double album “Coral Island” and have just kept the standard high with the next couple that both came out in 2023!

Bill left the coral a while ago, he struggled with agoraphobia and depression at times. He’s a brilliant guitarist though and did a lot of session work, memorably on the Arctic Monkeys AM. He’s been making a series of increasingly better solo albums as the years went by, peaking with last years album, which was my album of the year.

That fits in with my perception of the artist, appeared gentle and appreciative of his audience.
And FYI
BBC Concert Orchestra
Ryder-Jones will perform with the BBC Concert Orchestra on BBC Radio 3's Unclassified Live on January 23, 2025
