Fresh Grabs

Totally missed that Ashley Henry had a new one. Thanks for putting that on my radar!

That Muriel Grossmann is absolutely fantastic. It was much cheaper for me to preorder through HHV than directly from Bandcamp so I'll be waiting until sometime in January before I can spin it, but I'll damn sure be streaming it again between now and then.

Gonna have to give that Andy Hay a go too.
Honestly, I missed it too until I saw this copy online. Looking forward to listening though.

Hay is an incredible musician and puts so much effort into each package. This one came with a handpainted cover (each one is slightly different) handpainted artwork sheet, handwritten thank you note (personalised to me), and a hand typed and hand bound liner notes booklet. Amazing effort.

I remember you praising it before. And I'm pretty sure I listened to an album he put out last year, or the year before. Sadly the vinyl works out to a little over $130 of my dollars after exchange and shipping. Being a unique piece of art, I don't think that's necessarily unreasonable but for me it is definitely undoable at the moment!

Wowza, yeah that is very pricey! He seems to have quite a following nowadays so hopefully he will stretch out to the US soon so you can get an affordable copy of one of his albums!

I’ve been tempted by the Hay, especially as quantities drop, almost exclusively because of all the small details in the packaging. ~$80-90 importer is pretty steep for a record though

Still haven't purchased a record since October. This will be the last time I update in here until at least next April. However, I do have these that I've newly added since then...

November + Christmas time Acquisitions

October orders

Deep88 - Intoxication of the Power
hm505 - 505 explorations
Soela - Dark Portrait
Soichi Terada (寺田創一) - Asakusa Light
Charles Webster - Decision Time
Charli XCX - brat and it's the same but there's three more songs so it's not

The first five were made from a single order via a new favorite online store, located just a state up.
Deep88 is a deep house 2xLP with some bright, progressive electronic fills.
hm505 is a deep house 2xLP in the darker, ambient techno realm. Was only $15 and purchased the last one in stock.
This record by Russian electronic artist/producer Soela (Elina Shorokhova) is an under the radar find that fell into my lap late in the year. Dark Portrait is a fusion of deep house, ambient, and downtempo music tied together with Shorokhova's understated vocals. One of my favorites of 2024, and a versatile record for DJ sets in the coming years.
I enjoyed Soichi Terada's Asakusa Light when I first listened two years ago, but I love it even more now in the context of my future vinyl collection pursuits. He is also responsible for the Ape Escape series soundtrack, and that videogame OST influence on tracks like "Bamboo Fighter" and "Soaking Dry" is quite resonant with energetic, driving synths and bass hits.
If I could redo my 2020 top50 list, I would include this Charles Webster record in there for certain. Unfairly under the radar, with a litany of female guest features paired with rich production amidst downtempo/deep house tunes. Absolutely stellar.
I sent the standard edition BRAT that I claimed in the PIF thread to my friend from college as an early Christmas gift, but I preordered the deluxe edition from Target back in October with the help of the B2G1 promotion. One of my faves of the year of course; she keeps elevating and staying relevant in pop music discourse.

Christmas + Secret Santa gifts

Massive Attack - Blue Lines
Rafael Toral - Spectral Evolution
Ippudo (一風堂) - Night Mirage
Toshiki Kadomatsu (角松敏生) - Touch and Go

My younger brother gifted the Massive Attack and Rafael Toral records for Christmas. Massive Attack goes without saying, but Spectral Evolution was one I did not expect him to select, even with providing a wishlist. It is one of my favorites of the year, and certainly one of the best experimental/ambient records of the decade.
Thanks again for the SS gifts, @D Jilla. Love both of these Japanese LPs and they will get many plays, particularly Kadomatsu for city pop DJ sets. I urge YMO fans to check out the Ippudo record!

Received the last of my PIFsgiving claims plus my prized from the PIFsgiving raffle.

A couple nice books for Christmas and my Birthday, and the Lego turnable! Also got a gift card for some framing of some posters. Really nice gifts from the fam!

I love that Lego TT! On a semi tangential note, my daughter bought me this turntable cheeseboard that I absolutely LOVE. We used it immediately after I opened it up. The tonearm is a cheese slicer. She also bought me the Booze and Vinyl book.

My daughter got me that Booze and Vinyl book several years ago before I became a teetotaler. I think I may have handed it over to her earlier this year.

Audio Technica VMN95ML

Happy Christmas to me. One of the joys of the Clearaudio is you don't really need to buy a new cartridge, you can just upgrade the stylus. So I've gone with the microlinear one this time - thanks Mum for buying! (I'm afraid the Shibata would be too unforgiving on my African records). This is my first spin so hard to say too much, but Nusrat sounding mighty fine this morning.
