6th Annual N&G 31 Days* of Halloween (2024)

I've never actually seen any of the halloweens - which is the best timeline?

1, 2, 4-6?
1,2, H2O, resurrection?
1, 2018, Kills, ends?
or Rob Zombie I & II?
I'd probably go 1, 2, H20, Resurrection. Resurrection may be the worst of the bunch though.

Then you could do the most recent trilogy, which picks up right after the original ends (well, not right after, but it's supposed to be the successor).

After that 4-6, which kind of stand on their own as just basic slasher fare. Then 3 is standalone but it works as a generally entertaining spooky flick.

Zombie's I and II kind of make up their own lore and Michael Myers backstory, and are ridiculously brutal, which are two reasons why fans of the series denounce them. I kinda like them.

I'd agree with 1, 2, H20 (having not seen Resurrection or 4–6 yet, though I get the impression Resurrection is nonessential LOL).

I really dug 2018 but despised Kills and have zero intention of finishing the requel trilogy.

Rob Zombie's take is super brutal, but it's worth working through the middling I to get to II which I think is a really unique take on Myers.

Been missing out on this thread! Haven't been watching a movie a day, but a few under my belt so far this season.

The Omen (76) - Not my favorite in this pocket of horror movie, but still plenty enjoyable. Going to catch The First Omen (by which I mean the new Omen) next week.

Christine - A rewatch. Classic Carpenter vibes you really can't go wrong.

His House - Honestly kind of harrowing look at a Sudanese couple haunted (literally) by their past. Not perfect, but pretty effective.

Tenebre - My favorite Argento, forced a rewatch on some friends last night. So much to love, but the score just rips so hard.

But honestly Halloween 3, as bad a rap as it gets, is much more watchable than most of the other Halloween movies lol

I'll go a step further and say Halloween (78) and everything else is optional. The rest range from mid to atrocious.
If you're viewing it under the lens of only consuming the classics, sure. But I think you'll find that most horror fans are watching this stuff for the kills, lore or vibes, not necessarily because it's critically acclaimed or a well put together film. I find H20 to feel like a conversation with an old friend. Then HII (1981) is nice since it picks up where H1 left off. So if someone was craving that vibe and wanted something that was still produced by Carpenter, you could do worse. Then Halloween 6 has Paul Rudd, so yeah, I'm not not gonna see that in action, no matter how terrible.

That's fair! The vibes can get you pretty far in the original run

I think i'll do the 1/2 H2O & resurrection and see how I like enough to continue from there.

Resurrection has Busta Rhymes! the heck - i gotta watch that

Resurrection is still on my watchlist for this year. I don't know that I ever saw it when it came out. Can't remember any of it if I did (was likely quite weeded if I did see it). I'm sure Busta will be Oscar-worthy in comparison to LL in H20.

II is on the menu for tonight, though.

The franchise movie I DO remember from 2002 is Jason X, and I'd love to watch that one again. I remember it being completely ridiculous but also lots of fun

Oh yeah that's a classic. The sleeping bag scene is etched into my brain. Jason X would play on Encore all the time, which was the only "premium" channel we had, so my late night options were limited. I remember it played that, The English Patient, Blue Velvet, and other stuff my young mind couldn't comprehend.

I have never seen the Zombie Halloween movies and don't really have any desire to. Corpses and Rejects were decent and unfortunately I watched The Lords of Salem, but his white trash world is kind of boring. I guess I should watch 3 From Hell to finish the trilogy,
