April 2025 Spin Challenge – Well, this is puzzling…

Day 4 – Spin any artist, album or song that repeats a letter in its name or title

I Soumaoro et l'Eclipse de l'IJA - Le Tioko - Tioko

I had actually already spun a record for today. But then Amadou Bagayogo (of Amadou & Mariam) died, so playing this in memory of him. Probably my favourite albums of theirs, it's from their blind school in Mali (where they met). It's really a fabulous album, and has been recently reissued a few times. Go well, mon ami.

Day 5 - Today is 4/5 - spin a 45 or any record that is 45 rpm

The Organ "Grab That Gun & Thieves" (2004 Mint Records; reissue 2024)
Releasing only one proper studio album and a couple EP's at the height of the mid-2000's post-punk revival, the album and one EP being included on this 45rpm-cut reissue, this is a band that could have faded into obscurity despite their solid work. But their unique brand of organ-infused post-punk needed an audience and it got one when they featured on The L Word. The newly found attention made the release of this reissue possible. This all-women 5-piece band hails from Vancouver. Love their unique modernized take on post-punk. 🍁

I saw SRV just once - as support for Huey Lewis and the News on the Sports tour. I had no idea who he was at the time, but learned pretty damn quickly.

I decided to embrace 4/5 and finally crack open this boxset containing everything 7” that Pavement issued throughout their time actively making music.
